Aquitaine / alsace recommendations
Hi,
we are looking to go for three weeks in august to Southern france.
We prefer small caravan sites with pools and wonder on any members recommendations in either Aquitaine - dordogne- or Alsace regions of France
&.5m caravan, family Wife and 2 children 8 and 14 yrs).
Was thinking of 1 1/2 weeks on one site, then moving on to another for the remainder..or, just 3 solid weeks of one good site.
As I said, we dont like the larger commercial site sand prefer smaller sites, with pools.
Thanks

People often ask for a small site with a pool and I name some with 7 or 8 pitches and a pool, but then they say, Oh I didn't mean so small, the children would bored. But if you really do mean as small as that then one example in the Dordogne is La Coste Jaubert.

The sites we've visited in Alsace are on the wine route and are near typical attractive Alsace villages but none had pools, however if you look up 'sites in Alsace with pool' about 4 are shown in various places, including one near Strasbourg. Hopefully someone on here will be able to give a recommendation. Aquitaine and Dordogne are large, popular areas with many sites, what would you like to do/see - this might help with recommendations.

Can recommend

in alsace. Though alsace is a fair way from the dordogne. I would pick one side or the other.

We stayed at Soleil Plage in the Dordorgne last year and really liked the site but, if it is a bit on the large side, many posters have recommended La Perpetuum which has 120 pitches, a pool and is on the riverside-as is Soleil Plage.
Lovely area with lots to see and Sarlat is a lovely town with good shopping.

Thank you all for your replies, very much prefer your recommendations as we've been unlucky the last few outings with 'ferals' and extremely noisy camps..Prefer family / small sites that have more control..as well as those that hopefully have the 11pm wind down rules...
Kids will be happy with a pool and sightseeing, (they have their bikes)

Rich, Here's another small site with a pool in the Dordogne - Camping Bouyssou at Tursac - 20 pitches this time. It will be very French as I doubt if other Brits will have found it. I confess we haven't been there yet, but it's on our list.

Try Camping Bel Ombrage, St. Cybranet, near Sarlat. 180 pitches, swimming pools and swimming in the small river, which is clean. Only open June to September, also in the Club list of sites, plus its own website in English. Popular and pools are busy in school holidays but fun and safe for the children.
Sarlat always worth a visit, especially on markets days. Good restaurants and a big supermarket. Lots of castles and places to explore. La Coulevrine is a small hotel in town with a nice restaurant, better if your children are older.
Canoe hire on the main river (Dordogne).
We also used the CC listed site in Sarlat last year which may also suit, with pool. Easy walk to town, but a bit tougher on the way back up the hill for 15 minutes or so! Suggest if you use this site, dont arrive or depart on market day.

There is an Indigo site on the edge of Strasbourg. Its a medium sized site and had a small playground and swimming pool.Pitches are of average size. The site is on the edge of a city park, has a small restaurant and small shops restaurants nearby.Easy reach of Strasbourg city centre.Plenty of playing space and bike riding oportunities within the city park.
