Just heard the news that Sir Roger Bannister, the first person to break the 4 minute mile, has died today.  RIP Sir Roger.

    Had  to  smile  at  the  photo's  of  the  end  of  the very  first  sub  4 minute  mile.  Middle  aged /  elderly  gents  in  calf  length  mackintoshes,  sitting  on  stools  alongside  the  cinder  track  holding  stop watches  and  never  a  grouse  about  'accuracy'.  But  we  must  not  forget  his  pace makers,  Chris  Chataway  &  Chris  Brasher  who,  literally,  ran  themselves  into  the  ground.
