As per title realy.

I'm looking for site recommendations for a visit to the area of the ww1 battlefields and memorials. Quite  happy with small and basic as long as they are well run and clean with 240v

Thanks

Campsites at Ypres, Kemmel, Peronne, Albert and Cambrai all get frequent reviews. I guess it depends which tragic memorials and cemeteries you want to visit. Sadly there are so many.

We visited in 2016 and stayed at Les Puits Tournants, at Sailley Le Sec in the heart of the Somme area.

This is the review from my blog where there are photos.

It is absolutely beautiful if you are on the right pitch. The site is built around several lakes with caravans and chalets set round the edges. It is a largely chalet site but the ten or so caravan pitches around the lake are a dream. There are other pitches further away from the lake. On the lake are ducks, grebes and moorhens. There is bread available to order from reception where they speak a little English and Wifi at 3E for three hours. There is also a swimming pool, play area and mini golf. At various times we heard chickens and a donkey and at dusk the owls calling.

We stopped here for one night whilst enroute Zeebrugge. Site takes ACSI Camping Card. Facilities were OK. Right on Somme

Camping du Port de Plaisance at Peronne is a nice site and it is a reasonably easy walk into town where there is a big WW1 Museum. Some pictures of the site here

We stayed in the town of Albert, at Camping du Velodrome, which was within walking distance of town, which has a great WW1 museum, and is fairly central for lots of sites to visit -

Lochnagar Crater, Beaumont Hammel, Thiepval memorial, etc.

I'll second 'Camping du Velodrome' at Albert, very central for visiting the various sites in the Somme area. Basic with all amenities and at a good price, It is also an ACSI site if you have the card.

Yes, the campsite at Albert is basic but very good with a relaxing atmosphere. Water and waste to all pitches. Easy walk into town and central to lots of the main ww1 sites.
