I do not have to pay for my tv licence, and our house was bought cash with some of my redundancy money in 1994 for £27000 and it is now worth over £350,000,which we have willed to our children when we go,but what cash and investments we have is ours and we intend to spend as much as we can before we leave this world,and as for running costs it is below what it would cost to be living on sites all year,

It was Malcolm that specifically brought Freeview into the discussion, and Freeview is not an on site benefit, anyone can access it free with the correct apparatus.
Yes, you do need a licence, but we have just read Malcolm's take on why he does not need one.
Like JVB, we are really old and now get a free licence, so our Freeview is truly free, and legal!

I am not disputing that Malcolm, but you are advocating that we all sell our houses and move into our LVs to "get a life" and see the country, we are hardly going to be doing that if we are staying on only 2 seasonal pitches all the time!
If we want to see the country we would need to tour so you need to compare the correct figures. You really cannot be selective and only quote those figures that suit your arguement.
If we wanted to, we could afford both our house and the cost of touring all year on full facility sites, but as I, and several others have already said, we do not want to!

Even when you add in the extras like tv licence, sky package and high speed broadband and phone, our outgoings only come to about £12 a day. As with many on here the house is paid for and appreciating nicely, much better than any other reasonably safe investment. As with JVB we hope to leave its value to our sons. However, if we ever did run out of savings it is available for equity release. I doubt that is an option on a depreciating caravan.
When M adds on the cost of his towing vehicle and extra sites every 21 days, even with seasonal pitches I doubt he is much below this figure. Whilst we have a caravan and tow car, they are by no means essential.

To compare directly Justus2, you should include only those costs that are included in a site fee, so that would be council tax, water and waste, and fuel costs.
Even on a Club seasonal pitch you have to pay for your own phone, broadband, insurance and repairs.

Some(but not all) of my musings is based on the fact certain posters are almost stalking Malcom, when He’s not posting they kick start His ‘Future car/lifestyle/finances’ discussion to then demand His own thread to follow Him onto that & start over again. Schadenfreude?, oh yes it’s certainly in there from some☹️. Gladly Malc continues with dignity👍🏻

I think its true to say that this is an open forum so when Malcolm started telling folk about his personal lifestyle, finances/level of debt, Mrs M visa etc.etc. he did so in the full knowledge that those subjects would be discussed. I think most of us on here are concerned with the amount of personal information he posts.
I also think the vast majority of posts have been delivered with dignity

I think MM is just a having game with us and enjoys it. I see nothing wrong in playing the game as long as nobody is hurt by it. That's how I see it

He’s certainly having a game, Milo, but some don’t see it that way and seem to like nothing better than to follow him around in order to tell him how he should live his life.
Every new thread that’s started gives Malc another platform on which to play his game and provides more opportunity for those who wish to point out the error of his ways.

If a nought was missed off and the house was bought for £270,000 with some of the redundancy money that would have been one hell of a redundancy pay-out.

We paid £19,500 for ours in 1979. They sell between £725,000 & £ 750, 000 now. although one sold for £825,000 two years ago
Thing is, it's not real money as it where live and still love living here. My Son will be well sorted in the future though which is a comforting thought.

I think hard work also counts for a lot as well as luck, we both worked very hard and made lots of sacrifices to be where we are now. this also enabled us to buy another smaller property some 12 years back which we have been able to gift to our Son and Daughter in law to give them a start in life.

It hasn't thawed out yet and will probably continue like this until Saturday when temperatures might start to edge just above freezing during the day. We're just glad of our onboard tank that is keeping the water flowing through our caravan taps. Incidentally, house drains can get blocked too! So it's not necessarily always any better in a house.

I was referring to your Aquaroll!
First you said the water in it was frozen, then you said it was empty, and you could use it to fetch more water.
So I was saying it is fortunate it has thawed out.
Bit of a pain that your drains are still frozen though, not something that happens in our house as it is very well insulated and the drains are too far underground for the frost to affect them.
Some places in Norway, where it can get down below -30 sometimes, have that problem, the trick is to leave the hot water tap trickling overnight, or these days to install trace heating.

It was not frozen solid, Kj. It was only partially frozen so that water from the Aquaroll wouldn't come into the tap. So my wife brought hot water from the site dishwashing area hot water tap and used hot water around the outside to melt the ice sufficiently so that it could be emptied. Then she filled it with fresh water and used the internal caravan pump to fill the internal tank.

So, it's day two of being in the house. Nice and warm (glad the tenant is paying!) Guess what, I must be very different to most folk as I can't wait to get out of here and back on the road in the van. Cornwall is calling

She didn't empty it in the dishwashing area. She brought hot water over to the caravan in a water container to pour over the Aquaroll that was next to our caravan.
