Deliveries to site from supermarkets

my wife & I have been members for 25 years & go caravanning abroad for 3 months of the year. The club wants to encourage younger members who are very busy people & often have their supermarket deliveries go to home. They want the same at our sites. The.Club seem to be softening their approach from ‘  no way’ to ‘not yet’. My wife & I are split on this issue - what do you think?

I  believe  the  Club  will  never  permit  s/market  deliveries  to  the  sites.

In  view  of  the    latest  research  on  obesity  amongst  the  "Millennials"  the  powers  that  be  are  ensuring  we  get  our  required  exercise  before  we  get  our  "Five a Day"

Who wants to sit around on site for two hours waiting for a delivery when the alternative is to go out and enjoy the day and pop in the shops on the way home?

What makes you think the club is softening their stance on the issue, Greg?

When I was in my id twenties I regularly worked up to 70hrs a week and I did the shopping as well. There were no shops on a Sunday. How did I ever manage?

,Why should there be a need to have up to seven + different delivery vans coming to sites and having to wait outside the barriers for up to two hours until they arrive in your slot, surprised

I think there was a small side article in the latest mag TW that said they were looking into it but it's not a policy at the moment, or words to that effect as mag has been recycled.smile

Its a no from me . More traffic on site . Deliveries arriving before members have arrived on site  (stuck in traffic or snow ) Spend your money locally or if you really don't have the time to shop ,have it delivered home and bring it with you .

I was desperately trying not to mention that, Msmile

Anyway, TW, I realised mag only in garage waiting for collection so I braved the weather and ventured out.

"At this moment in time we're unable to accept deliveries from supermarkets to Club sites, although this is something we are looking to address in the longer term. etc.etc."

In general terms I am against Supermarket or fast food deliveries to site no matter which Leisure industry business is running the site.

What's wrong with shopping locally and supporting the local economy. by popping in to the shops, when out and about enjoying the area.

Definite no from me.  I prefer to shop locally when away in the van.

The thought of numerous Tesco, Asda, Waitrose, Sainsbury's etc., etc., largish vans arriving on site throughout the day is not something I want to see.

Those that favour it claim that it will not cause any extra work for site staff.  I can't see that myself as, when ordering you would presumably give your pitch number so I think drivers will expect to deliver to pitches.  If they can't, who's going to carry the shopping from reception to the pitch?

My opinion is that, if people can't manage without a supermarket delivery, they must wait outside the site for their delivery and carry it to their pitch themselves.

So it would appear that once again the club seem to be arriving at a solution to a perceived problem that doesn't find favour with many members.

I know it's only a few replies on this thread but it has cropped up before and I seem to recall that the vast majority of posters didn't want it.

'I'm out all day, can you please deliver at 9pm please'

'No problem sir, and your pitch number?'

'Can you please stick to the site speed lmit and one way system'

    'Of courseinnocent'

In your dreams, a definite 'NO' from me.

Not agreeing one way or the other but it seems the club have double standards on this issue. They allow chip vans to pull on to late night arrival/car park areas, newspaper/bread vans to run around the site so if members are prepared to stand around close to the entrance waiting for deliveries can't see what the problem is.

We sat in the caravan ( on a n other club site ) the other evening, heard a screech of brakes and such a bang, by the time I got my shoes on to go out a crowd of people were trying to help a youth who had been knocked off his moped, I had to ask everyone to make way and let me through, a lady asked " are you a doctor ? " I said  " no but that's my Pizza ".

Being away for the weekend is ideal time to have LIDL deliveries so you can pack them into your M&S bags before going home !!!

Believe me It's been done, parked outside ASDA I've seen people taking an unpacked trolley full of food back to the car to load it all into M&S bags.

Any bags will do for me, I don't change them over for particular shops but like Jill I'd shop locally if possible. I only used deliveries when I was busy working and might again if I become less mobile. Meanwhile I'll take a walk to the shops as I've been doing in York or if I'm near a village shop etc. smile

Mobile wood fired pizza vans do visit some sites. There are some good local shops in many places,  take a walk and discover them too. smile

I think that you are correct Davis. We use supermarkets often. If we spend part of a day in a town or city we may well shop locally there as well particularly as a top up or to pick up the sort of stuff that supermarkets tend not to stock.

well I'm firstly concerned about the safety implications about vans on site, driving around and parking perhaps obscuring other users and then impeding pitching or leaving. What happens if these vans arrive when there is a queue, which could happen at any time? The extra work for wardens as well, some sites there are only set.

Also I can't really believe people are so busy they can't shop?

So it's a no from me.

Interesting........ personally, it's a no deliveries to sites from me, purely and simply because it would be chaos. Imagine a big site, say 300 pitches, busy holiday time and site nearly full. Even if only a quarter of visitors had deliveries it would still be bad. We take what we need for a couple of days, then do a basics shop using whatever supermarket is available, but treat ourselves to local goodies as well.

However.....Cottage last week, we took a few goodies with us, but had a delivery to cottage, as we were in a two seater car with two big dogs, so it made sense. We shopped local through the week for bread, cheese, fruit, veg, other nice goodies. Easy to a single address, bedlam to a big site.

Personally not in favour. Totally different to chip and pizza vans, which the wardens arrange and are parked in one place.

Another thing that should be considered is the affect it could have on local relations. When the CC proposed totally closing Hawes for refurbishment the local council was not pleased due to potential loss of revenue. Tesco deliver to Hawes from Catterick. If this was allowed to the site, I am not sure it would go down well. Anyway the local shops and weekly market in Hawes are first class, so why not use them.

When we used Caravan more, first job for me was always a walk for dogs while OH got us pitched up, level and connected so to speak. Then it was a another division of labour, one putting up awning, other off to do a bit of a shop. Two tasks, best done by one individual!

MH is easy. Pull into car park, shop (wherever), drive to site, done.

I have had a delivery on an Adults only site and it worked really well.  I understood that CAMC had at one point allowed it but then stopped it due to the amount of vans flying around the site and the associated dangers.

Can't be as bad as the chip van, with an ageing membership it will need meals on wheels soon, the club talks about attracting younger members but nothing to encourage them.
