Dordogne in July recommendations

Hi we are thinking of going to the the Dordogne region the first two weeks in July, still waiting for retirement unfortunately so can only get two weeks. We are a couple in our early 60’s and we like sites on the edge of towns so we can walk in to enjoy a meal and a drink in the evenings. Don’t mind what kind of site quite happy with commercial sites or similar. Would appreciate recommendations on areas to visit  and sites.

    You might like Camping du Chateau at Eymet which is well situated for a stroll into town - and surprisingly few campsites in that area are.  Far upstream there is also the site at Beaulieu sur Dordogne, but that's perhaps outside the area you are considering.

    Thanks eurotraveller will check it out. I am afraid I messed up when I put quite happy with commmercial site I ment to put municipal sites so long as the  basic facilities are good We do not mind what type of site it is.

    Hi ob1,

    We are going to Camping Maisonneauve down Nr Castlenaud and Sarlat in June.

    As you are traveling from Cheshire and time is short I really would suggest a Western crossing, if taking a night boat from Portsmouth you could be in the Dordogne by mid afternoon the next day having had a shower and breakfast on the boat.

    Look at Huttopia Sarlat (www.sarlat@huttopia.com).  It is a 10 min walk from the town, up hill on the way back!  The site itself is quite hilly and but ok if you are reasonably fit.  Suggest you book asap for July.  Site is ACSI (1759) until 5 Jul.

    Beautiful municipal site at Mareuil, last year at 12E. Good walk and plenty of places to eat in the village. Brantome is only down the road, and the warden is English. We are going back there.

    Slightly to the northerly edge of the Dordogne area, but the town of Brantome is delightful sitting right on the river Dronns. The excellent Camping Peyrevade is certainly within easy walking distance of the town. The site has swimming pool and bar/cafe and helpful owners. The town has lots of events and activities, and a Lidl and a Co-op. Great restaurants as well.

    Thanks just had a look at Brantome on the internet and it looks a lovely place just the sort of town we are looking for we like to tour while we are away to see as many places as we have time for so we stay a few days and then move on so still open to more suggestions.
