Adele, of Camping Travel Club (Camping Cheques) is back in the game. It's a long time since we had an email from her but today here is the announcement we've been waiting for:

The network of Camping Travel Club is joining Canvas Holidays a long-established holiday’s specialist since 50 year, you will get a wide range of destinations everywhere in Europe with a simplified form. In 2018, for your holidays on pitches, everywhere in Europe you can reload your cards following your need through our web site or by calling our customer service centre

and perhaps even better: that paper Camping Cheques will still be accepted in 2018.

More details here:

Hi Val, just doing my regular clear out of Deleted User and junk emails came across the one from Adele.

Friends who are not club members are going to phone for a price and it will be interesting to see what they are offfered in terms of Cheques or Vouchers.

We were hoping to join and obtain a ‘Silver Card’ for Camping Cheques as the site L’Amfora in Roses is asking for this to enable us to reserve a pitch.  Guess we can no longer join and won’t be able to get discounted rate.  An ACSI site it is then.

Hi, depending in what time of year you are visiting it will likely as not be unnecessary to book a pitch. Another issue with booking is that unless you know the site it is possible or end up with one that’s less than ideal.

If you're a Caravan and Motorhome Club member than you can buy the Camping Key card, which will give you a discount at L'Amfora - the per-night price coming down to 18 euros per night.

    Camping Key

But you won't need to book at L'Amfora at that time of year - just turn up - we may be turning up next to you!

Yes, I received the same email yesterday.  Good news for those with paper cheques (Stuart!!), at least for 2018, but the overall trend is for rental pitches rather than touring pitches - Canvas Holidays advertises mobile homes, lodges, tents and apartments, but no touring pitches on sites.

It seems to me that either CCs will disappear altogether soon, or they will only be available for the rental of various accommodation types.

Many sites have already gone from CC to ACSI, and the concept of ACSI has always seemed to me the better option, although I'm the first to admit that in the past I have taken advantage of those who wanted to offload their paper cheques and profited from it!

That’s good news.  Thanks.  We would hope to get a decent sized pitch (just bought a 400 Kampa air awning to go on our caravan).  It’s our first time in Spain so a tad apprehensive !

No need to worry Atley j as there is bound to be a few British on site who will give you a hand. Amfora is a nice site and you should enjoy it.

The pitches around the perimeter of the L'Amfora are the biggest - and are quieter than in the centre of the site.  The toilet block to the southern perimeter is very smart indeed.  There is a good supermarket on site, with reasonable prices (and very good bread) and the pools are nice.  Meals in the restaurant are also good value.  The beach is quite sloping and can be windy (as can anywhere on that coast because of the 'Pyrenees effect') but on calm days is lovely.

If you're into bird-watching then the Aguamolls Nature Reserve is a very good day out - and the reason we want to go back in early Spring to see different birds to those we saw towards the end of the season.
