An early morning trip to the Post Office depot this morning to collect a parcel they tried to deliver yesterday. It was a groundsheet for the MH. I've now got all my extra kit together ready for our foray to the Continent. The only thing left outstanding is my French pollution sticker which I presume will arrive shortly.

Productive morning, OH has contacted CCC regarding having an awning when we had not said we would, not a problem as all pitches are wide enough, they just like to know apparently. Also requested pitch close to facilities.
Also sorted car insurance, put our daughter on from renewal and saved £38......very odd!
Not a bad day weatherwise either.

My tax account is showing zero tax liability because with married persons allowance, I have been earning less than my total allowances for the last three years, yet I paid £1200 in income tax. If no tax was due but I paid that amount, then it will all get refunded, surely?
Biggest difficulty for us is not meeting the income rule of £18600 for my wife's visa. However, the visa solicitor has raised the question of exceptional circumstances in the value of the housing that is being supplied to us for free by my cousin and the financial monthly gift from my eldest brother. Because of this, the visa solicitor is able to argue that our financial need is a lot less than would normally be the case if we had to pay the full cost of housing without any financial gifts from family relations. So although the tax returns are showing an income below £12,700, if financial gifts plus the value of the free housing is taken into account than it could be argued that this will take us over the £18,600 threshold.
The visa solicitor has advised that the matter is still under consideration i.e. no decision has yet been reached by the Home Office. However, we did receive a letter from the Home Office when my wife was asked to submit biometrics, that the visa solicitor had raised other issues with them under Human Rights legislation in which a recent High Court decision was quoted whereby the Home Office was ordered by the court to grant a visa in a case where there was a shortfall in meeting the financial rule. The Home Office also advised us that raising issues under Human Rights laws were complicated and so would take longer to reach a decision. In the meantime my wife has a right yo remain here. Tgree months have now passed since her visa expired.

As the law goes. As long as the visa is applied for by the expiry date of the previous visa, it ensures the right to remain until a decision is reached. The firm of solicitors that we are using have considerable expertise in visa laws, so we believe we are in good hands! If we tried to do it ourselves, we would have lost the case by now and the visa would have been refused. So I believe the money I paid them was well worth it even though it increased the amount of debt I'm in. Debts can easily be paid for out of future earnings and thereby money replaced. My wife, on the other hand, cannot be replaced, so I need to do what it takes to get her visa granted!

Fantastic 6 mile walk this morning with blue sky’s and 10C temperature. Walked from Burnham Overy Staithe to the beach, the over the dunes to the estuary, back along the shoreline to Holkham then return via the dunes. Longest walk I’ve done since before Xmas. 🌞
Will do some maintenance on the van after lunch before wandering around the lanes here.

I cannot see how just adding the marriage allowance could possibly do that if you take all your income into account.
As I said the max tax saving from it is around £230 per year, so a saving of £1200 over 3 years is impossible, if nothing else has changed.
Have you claimed any expenses or anything else?
I don't think it works the way you think it does.
BTW.......it is called the marriage allowance, not the married persons allowance, that is something totally different.
Some points to bear in mind......
State pension is taxable, though paid gross, it is deducted from your code number.
Each tax year stands alone.
You will need to look at each year individually, add up ALL income for that year, deduct you new total allowance then calculate the tax. Then look at what you actually paid either direct when you were self employed, or through PAYE where appropriate.
If what would be due is less than you paid, then you can claim a refund of the difference.

By the way, as already mentioned, my personal account overdraft was completely paid off from recent transfer, plus business account overdraft reduced to below £1000. The remainder can be paid off by the end of next week from further payments that I have been advised I'll be receiving, state pension etc. So the business account overdraft will clear by Friday. That takes care of all interest paying debt. The rest of it, i.e. credit cards are all interest free!
So I reckon I'm doing all right, don't you think?

One of our favourite places, Op. The number of paintings that Mrs.WN has done of BOS could fill a gallery! We often walk the route you've taken and then when we get back to BOS she does a sketch and gets me to take a photo to get the lighting etc. Must admit though that I find the pub there, The Hero?, a bit too stand-offish for my liking, more like it's geared to London money and clientele.

A beautiful day today so after visiting the town for some odd bits and pieces from the market we returned home, had lunch and then went for a stroll. There was lots of cleaning of cars and caravans going on in the village and it took ages to get out as we hadn't seen half of the people for months. Nice to hear their plans though for the forthcoming touring year.

Never been to the pub there WN, I think there’s quite a clicky boating set around. Whilst there today the was a chap giving a photograph course, looked quite interesting. Lot of Berwick Swans heading out to sea so I guess their migration has started.

It's been a gorgeous day down here today and although there's a bit of a hiccup forecast for tomorrow it's looking good again for next week - very cold but dry and bright. So, since the van's on the drive following its annual service we're taking advantage of this with a few days up at Moreton in Marsh next week.
Incidentally, having been badly let down over the past two years with servicing at one of Bailey's leading distributors in the SW, we switched to a local company, Pickwick Caravans, and were delighted by their service. Job done, van washed, full report and £50 cheaper than last year's Bailey dealer service. So anyone in this area looking for a good deal would be well advised to give them a go.

Mixed sort of day today, weather started out a bit grey, dull, cold and wet. Then finished nice and sunny
even managed another hour in the garden this afternoon.Visit to Mum this morning, followed by a visit to the opticians as I've decided to treat myself to prescription sun glasses.
Then a bit of shopping before coming home to a late lunch and a bike ride out afterwards.
All in all a pretty good day
