St. Malo to Montlucon
With an early start, would it be manageable towing a caravan in a day? Checked via Michelin and they're saying approx 7 hours (which I don't mind doing) but not knowing the roads, St Malo-Le Mans-Tours-Chateauroux, am asking for advice as most of the route is non-motorway.

Hi Jonray, we did Calais to Boussac, which is just before Montlucan, via Chateauroux, regularly but it took 10 hours incl stops. We had two big dogs. And Towing! We went via Rouen, Evreux, Dreux and Chatres, on the N154, then A10, A71 and A20 then cross country from Chateauroux. A painless drive and very flat and green when you leave the autoroute.

Jonray, from St Malo to Montlucon can be all Motorway if you wish via Le Mans, Tours and Bourges - it will cost you about €55 in class 2 tolls but will get you there quickly.
Or you can go entirely toll free via Angers, Poitiers and Gueret. Allow an extra couple of hours but stop somewhere along the way if you get tired. Your choice .

The seven hours quoted by Viamichelin is at maximum speed on all sections of the route - and we all know how rarely you can do that sort of mph! I would say to add two hours or more, depending on what day you're towing, and what part of the season. In mid-July on a peak Saturday it could take twice as long. In May on a Sunday when there are no HGVs on the road I'd still expect to add a couple of hours to the quoted time - and that doesn't include comfort stops, refuelling, etc!
