90 Kph Speed Limit France

Dont know if this has been mentioned before.

Talking with BL in France yesterday. Apparently the 90kph speed limit on normal (non dual) roads will be reduced to 80kph from July. This is in an effort to cut accidents.

This of course won't affect most when towing, as its 80kph anyway. However, when solo beware.

That will be interesting; we have a MH which is over 3.5t, so have already been limited to that speed for some time.  HGVs really don't like it and try to make you go faster, even though it obviously applies to them too!  Will also be interesting to see how many cars will actually keep to that speed.

As the French seem fairly reluctant to keep to the current limits, I suppose it will come down to how rigidly it is enforced. Of course any automatic speed traps will be reset and they are not as obvious as in the UK.

Thanks for that, although I'm returning late June just before implementation, the French police might be out practicing on us Brits frown, and we have a preference for the rural 'D' roads.

Just to remind you that when a French motorists coming in the opposite direction to you 'flashes' - they aren't admiring your MH or Caravan but are warning you 'Les Keufs' have a speed trap waiting a short distance down the road.

I have been going to France for 27 years without any trouble apart from last year I was in the wrong but a little bit of common sense should have prevailed I was approaching a junction from a side road and I slowed right down you could see about 200 yard up the road on both sides so I moved onto the road and then a motor cycle cop who must have been hiding in the bushes waved me over because I didn't stop at the junction as it had a solid line it doesn't matter how slow you were going and add to the fact there wasn't any traffic coming I didn't stop and that cost me a 90 euro on the spot fine.So beware

Just to warning to anyone using the Caen ring road heading south, as you join the ring road from the Ouistram direction, there is a 70kph limit AND a camera, about 100m from the slip road on.

The 70kph limit sign is on the sliproad, just about where you are checking the left hand mirror to join the main ring road, so could miss it (like I did)

I was flashed by the camera last April, just as I was picking up speed to what I had thought was a 90 kph limit!

Also, speed cameras have been breeding in France over the past few years.

Just to confirm the change from 90km to 80 km speed limit it has a 2 page coverage in our local La Depeche paper today from 1st July this year, whether the locals will notice it is another thing as some cannot keep to 90km now, it will be on all secondary roads and may change on dual carriage ways as well.
