Driving through Austria
We are planning a trip to Slovenia in May as part of a 3 month road trip. We will be driving through Austria on the way. Does anyone know if this trip can be made without driving on roads that require a vingette in Austria? We know we will have to pay for going through tunnels though. We also know that we will need to pay for the vingette in Slovenia for most roads. We will be towing a twin axle 8m caravan. The total weight of car and caravan combined is over 3.5 tonne so we are not sure which category of vingette we need. If anone has done this any hints would be gratefully received.

Many thanks for your reply. Hopefully we will hear from Diane T ;-)

Unlike Switzerland, Austria only require a vignette for the towing vehicle so the weight will be judged on that rather than the combined weight. For prices of vignettes have a look here. They can be purchased quite easily on route to the Austrian border at petrol stations and service stations. Look out for the sign below which indicate a place selling vignettes.

Or
if you want to get vignettes before you go (tunnel tolls extra of course)
A minor cost in terms of the overall holiday?

I have used Tolltickets in the past, especially when buying the two month vignette and they are very good. They also so lots of other countries as so well worth looking at. I do wonder whether buying the 10 day one in advance is as convenient unless you have a very predefined holiday planned where you know where you will be exactly on a day to day basis. If you are touring with only a general plan it might be more convenient to buy them as you need them as buying in advance you have to stipulate the dates.
