Aix en Provence?
Hi,
We are hoping to spend a couple of days around Aix en Provence in early August this year.
We are looking for a site not too far from the motorway, a short walk from a town or village.
Possible access to public transport into Aix itself.
We are a couple travelling with our caravan, just a nice clean site within easy access.

I know this is very Geek and possibly not what you want but as a first reply to keep your post at the top...
We enjoyed our stay at Greoux Les Bains (out of season - very quiet, very few kids - we love them but...)

The pitch was massive, the site facilities were good and it is a short walk away from the town which had loads of bars, restaurants etc.
Can't speak to public transport to Aix as it is some way out but, the Geekish bit is that it's handy for ITER (but you need to book in advance)

Last May we stayed at the 2 star Sainte Victoire site at Beaurecueil. It is in a rural area with a wonderful view of Sainte Victoire mountain and in May the field opposite the site was full of poppies with the mountain behind - a wonderful view at any time but especially towards sunset.
A bus runs from the site entrance to Aix (8km distance) 13 times a day through some pleasant countryside. There is also some good walking in the Sainte Victoire area with a visitor centre easily accessible by car or a pleasant walk (although you are at the edge of or on country roads.)
The bus fare to Aix was very reasonable. (Sorry I can't remember the exact amount.) You can alight in the city centre or near to the main bus station where there is a fast and inexpensive bus service to Marsailles. Buses are every 2 minutes from Aix to Marsailles and I think the cost for that journey was 10 euros each return.

I believe that there is still a site in Aix but it is next to an elevated section of motorway. We once passed the entrance but much preferred being in the countryside and travelling by bus into the city.

I'd second the Sainte Victoire site at Beaurecueil. Regular bus service from outside the campsite. Access roads to the site from the motorway are narrow with passing places. Try to get a pitch away from the road which can be noisy. Apart from that its a quit and friendly site.

That sounds a good campsite, but if you are driving to Aix from further away there are now five park-and-rides spread around the city. Parking is about €2.50 and the bus is free.

Despite its location - near to the autoroute - we found that the bijou site, Camping Arc en Soleil, was quiet and relaxing. It's ideal for visiting the town centre as it's within walking distance or a short bus ride if you prefer. We haven't been there for a few years but from the website it still looks like a pleasant site.

Ýes, I meant 'camping rainbow' . Don't know where Soleil came from!
Aix is a lovely town to wander about. On one visit it was Music week and there were musicians of all sorts playing at every street corner. Another visit, we took in a Picasso exhibition - he spent a lot of his later years in Provence.

We have decided upon St Victoire. I agree chasandcath that the town site looks good on the website, but having recently stayed at the city campsite in Rotterdam we may give it a miss this time😉.
