SatNav map updates
How often do map updates come out for GARMIN SatNavs?

Four times a year

Have never used Tom Tom.
We have the Garmin Express app on our PC. Every few months we connect the SatNav to the PC and the app tells us if there is an update.
Updating to new Europe maps then takes about 30 minutes.

I have the Camper 660LMT-D Avtex. Had it for 2 years and have found it to be very good, it certainly changes a route if you have a caravan on the back and of course you have altered the Garmin accordingly.

It would be interesting to know how these “caravan” algorithms work because I have used standard satnavs throughout Europe for 15 years and covered probably 30,000 miles and I don’t recall ever being on a road not suited to a car/caravan combination (except when I took a wrong turn a couple of times). Admittedly, mine is set to fastest route with a motorway preference so maybe that’s the reason.

agree with Hitch....'fastest route' plus follow given instructions when approaching a site will cure 99% of navigation ills......
anyway, for a 'caravan' type navigation (where you input unit size) device to work properly, it also needs to know the size (width etc) of all roads....it certainly does not...
the only roads which are 'categorised' as 'narrow' are those with specific width signs...
there are many, many, roads out there (loads near us) that are not formally categorised that are 'fair game' for any sat nav...
to see what i mean, just set the device (even a caravan one) to 'shortest route' and youll have loads of fun......cutting a corner down a (unsigned, un measured) country lane, just to save a few yards...
ps, only do this as a test in a small car......
these things only do what they are told and with the info at hand....
'most fun' with a sat nav.....?
i lent my old one to my daughter for them to find a 'function' out in the sticks.....they were late, and not amused, telling me my trusty Tomtom had taken them all over the place, moving onto small roads almost as soon as they were on a main road...
on inspection, i realised i had last used it on my bike and i had it set to 'cycle routes'......
