Miserable day here, snow overnight, now very grey with hail off and on. Very cold, heating has been turned on again.
Amusing ourselves trying to plan our early summer trip, have so far booked Garlieston, Keswick and Chirk, to visit friends. Now trying to decide where to go from there.

My wife cuts my hair too - what there is left of it!!
Only uses scissors and takes no time at all!!!
Actually that reminds me of a funny story. When I was teaching, the class were lining up waiting to come in. I was at the front by the door. The one girl turned to her friend who had had her hair changed and said, "Ooo look! Hair." She turned around to resume her place in the line, looked at me and without thinking, just said, "Ooo look! No hair". The poor girl didn't know what to do until I started laughing.

In between a visit from a local company to sort out a replacement conservatory I've been downloading some walks planned for a trip to East Anglia later on. It's surprising how many walks are available in just about every area of the country and easily printable too, so I can have a good look at them.

Drive down from Keswick to Southport was ok apart from sleet coming over Shap. It was a horrible night last night, torrential rain and the wind rocked the van all night.
Kept our eye on the lake as we were only about 15 m from it. There is work being done to the site, making some of the pitches into service ones and re doing some of the h/s, so the warden had put everyone down by the lake as far from the work as possible.
Arrived at Southport around 12.30 to sunshine, within minutes it was sleet again and the wind is again rocking the van. Had a drive into town, lots of shops look closed up. Not sure if its just for the winter or not but its looking a bit sad in places.

We're booked in on the smaller Derwentwater site later, prefer it to the Keswick site, a bit more sheltered and newer. Miss the views but still get a few glimpses of the hills.
Hope it's not too blustery at Southport TG but it seems to be like that it in a lot of places just now. I think Southport has seen better days but I know others love it.

Sadly TammyG there's loads of towns like that even the higher quality shops are suffering now. It can't all be due to t'internet can it ?? About 40% of Crewe seems to be closed with 10% Pound shops or similar. But this is/was purely a working town where as Southport was very upmarket as I recall.
Don't worry too much about the wind rocking your motor, just keep a weather eye out for the tide !! It goes out so far I reckon it will either forget to come back in, or it just won't stop !!

We aren't allowed to put ash in our bin, but as we only use wood we spread the ash on the garden
Given all the council cut backs I keep expecting to be told we have to make alternative arrangements. Hopefully there are enough of us in this an X coal mining area, to make it a bad move when it comes to local election time.😱

We have been every year at December and over Christmas for 10 to 15 nights for the last 7 or 8 years.
There are not that many closed shops (or wasn't in December) but there are a few.
But yes, like a lot of towns it is not what it was.
There ha been significant change in the last 15 years as well. 15 years ago I stayed in Southport on my own for a few days to do Christmas shopping. I particularly was struck by the number of shop workers, and local shoppers, with a Lancashire accent. Now it is mainly Liverpool/Merseyside accents

We have booked the smaller Derwentwater CCC site at Keswick, but have forgotten to request a disabled pitch. Is the only way now to ring the central booking place?
Following on from Chirk we have now booked Tax Farm CL in Derbyshire and now trying to book a CL near Lincoln.

We're on a nice CL not far from Great Malvern, Kj. Nice area, not too far from Chirk, with a few NT places about and Worcester and Tewkesbury. Plus you've got a club site here if you prefer them to CLs. If you get bored you could try walking the hills.😋

Thanks WN......Malvern is an area we know well and do like, but we have decided not to venture too far south as we have our daughter to think of.
She is expecting her first baby in March, no problem there, but both she and her husband have their former flats which they rent out and which sometimes have emergency issues, so we are not venturing too far away this year, just in case!
Apparently I am the repair man for anything that goes wrong Only if I cannot fix it does a professional get called out.
So I now have 5 houses where I can get called upon......our house......our daughter's house........our son's house.......and 2 rented out flats.
Keeps me busy and out of mischief!!

Thanks brue, will get OH to ring them as she is the lead member. Not going till June, so plenty of time yet
Access/mobility is not an issue, but OH needs help with showering, plus has a pile of stuff to take along, so it would be good to be not too far from the facilities, especially if the weather is not great!
Have only used 3 CCC sites so far, so not yet familiar with all the procedures!

I know that you drive a speedy car, WN, but Malvern to Chirk (at least 80mls) would still take you at least a couple of hours, I guess.
