Silent Witness - Good or Bad?
Watched BBC One's Silent Witness last night and was left wondering whether the subject covered actually made for decent viewing or not?
I'm no prude, but the programme (IMHO) shed a bad light on the Police, Care Homes, Carers and their staff and I'm not sure if it made for decent television.
Granted, all very topical, sadly.

+1, we all know of the watershed & on SW it was adhered to. It’s a great show, very deep & convoluted with surprises. I never expected the young Lad to be shot😱. Re “shed a bad light” it is fictional but does happen in reality.

My view is that it is a generally an excellent programme. I think, if it was the first time of watching, each story is made up of two episodes over two nights and things often develop further in the second episode so perhaps best not to make a judgement on half the story? They are pretty gritty stories but most not beyond imagination given what we hear on the news. I was also a bit surprised about the young lad being shot as one would have felt in real life a few more background checks would have been done. I think there are so many strands from last nights episode its not so easy to see where it will lead. It is a long running TV series and probably gets the prize for being the most gruesome!!!

I wonder if Jonray persevered with the second episode which has just finished as I post this? I am never quite sure about when members of the team become part of the story but it seemed to work this evening, albeit pretty scary. I think tonight was the last in the current series.

It's a series Ive watched for years and enjoy the "grittiness" of it. Agree with you re "prize for being the most gruesome" as the BBC tend to be a tad tame in comparison to other channels, even after the watershed (Although McMafia is running a close second!)
This series has been different and the "suject matter" well, let's just say it's been turned up a notch or two, particularly in this last show. I'm not sure I was "entertained" by it. Thought provoking and somewhat disturbing (more akin to a Panorama special) it most definitely was and well acted all the same.
Next series will no doubt deal with other current affairs, like human trafficking, paedophilia, child grooming and maybe even the Caravan Industry.

There does appear to be a trend for increasingly violent and anarchic themes in TV dramas. What concerns me is its propensity to anaesthetise us to such events. At the conclusion of some programmes I have a sense of having been violated. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Violated? Not a bit of it. If I had any sense of violation I’d turn over to a more sedate offering.

Whenever there are new drama / serials etc on many channels their main plot appears to be murder / bloodshed / violence etc, take your pick. Even programmes like Corrie / Emmerdale issue warnings before the programmes start
Unfortunately, we live in an age of violence, crime, murder, and worse!
Why do so many programmes have to remind us at every turn?
What happened to "light" entertainment?
Before anyone mentions it, yes I do turn them off or change channels

It's not so much the subject matter but the extreme depiction of it that gets to me.

Sorry to disagree with you CY,but it all out there, whether we like it or not. Such programmes are all the better for it, than the mindless drivel that's Skating on Thin Ice,or whatever, before a cast of 100 never has beens!!

I would agree with your assessment of that. Strictly, The Voice, I'm a nobody, get me out, plus you can add Emmerdale, Corrie, & Eastenders may also be consigned to the bin.
