CL type sites in The Netherlands
We are considering visiting The Netherlands in April this year for the first time. Does anybody have any experience of visiting CL type sites in the Netherlands? We have seen online that there are small ‘minicamping’ sites being advertised. We would be very grateful to hear from anyone who has actually stayed at one of these.

There is a group of Dutch sites that advertise themselves as small sites but regretfully I can't recall the name but somebody will. They have a website. They won't be as small as CL's. One thing I would say is not to restrict yourself. I assume you want to see various parts of the Netherlands? I would be inclined to look for sites near where you want to visit be they small, medium or large.

The ACSI people have a list of what they call "great little campsites" - with over a hundred of them in the Netherlands - and by "little" they mean sites with fewer than 50 pitches. We ourselves were perfectly happy with Dutch sites of that size, and didn't go looking for 5 pitches on a farm. But then we were equally happy with a big international site in Amsterdam for a week while we toured the city.
All Dutch campsites are good - so as DK said earlier the main thing is to choose what you want to see and do and where you want to go, but don't miss Keukenhof in April.

We haven't stayed on any minicampings, but they are not as small as a 5 van CL over here. One website, camping on a farm: http://www.kamperen-bij-de-boer.com/ (Dutch only though!) sites vary from about 10 pitches to 50, so not the same as a CL. The other website is VEKABO
Bear in mind when going to Holland in April, that the King's birthday is a bank holiday, it is on the 27th of April. Also, if overlapping into May, the 5th of May is celebrated, being Liberation Day. As the 2 are about a week apart, some people will book holidays. Just a thought.

We stayed on one of these a few years ago, near Rotterdam, after getting off the ferry.
Lovely people who believe it or not didn't speak a word of English among the 20 or so on site. Nevertheless we were made to feel welcome.
Only problem was the following morning. They didn't open the locked gates until 10.00am. Still it allowed us to have a leisurely breakfast and shower and still be ready for the off.

Cym, We've stayed on a few small sites and generally enjoyed them. Beware that you might need to leave your car in a car park area.
I would dispute EuroT's statement though. We have had to move site from a pretty awful one, in ACSI, due to long stayers, but did find a real gem after it. Most of them have been decent and friendly.

Thank you Ina, Vekabo was what I was trying to remember.
