Skoda Kodiaq Towing Mirrors

Skoda Kodiaq: Great Tow car. Very pleased with it.

Other than...... The mirrors. I have the Milenco Grand Aero mirrors from my land rover, but the Kodiaq mirrors have an chamfer around the lip of the mirror which the Milenco clamp doesn't grip very well. 

Anyone got a solution to this? The CC review of the Kodiaq briefly mentioned the mirrors. I am concerned that on a long journey the will work loose and come off. I am reluctant to have to buy new mirrors if I can avoid it.

    We have a Touareg may have the same mirror housing and they have a lip which runs along the top but the bottom of the housing is flat so just swap the mirrors over and clip on the bottom.

    Added to the above just remembered if you do try this way and your mirrors fold back when Central Locking is engaged then remove mirrors first!!!.

    I have these on my Tiguan which solve the problem.  A complex link!  Just Google 'Milenco 'f' pads' and your there!

    I’ve got a Discovery 4 which also has a chamfered top lip which also caused me problems attaching the Milenco Grand Aero mirrors. 

    This was rectified by sliding a piece of old cycle wheel inner tube over the bracket, a quick cheap solution

    Milenco have said that I need to buy the new Aero 3 clamps which have been modified apparently and hopefully should work

    Hmmm. I wonder which is cheapest?  New mirrors? Bike inner tube....

    You pays your money and you make your choice!!  But it's funny that milenco don't mention the 'v' pads?sealed

    Hi

    I tow a Coachman Pastiche 460 with a 2015 Skoda Superb Estate Mk3, using Milenco Grand Aero mirrors. I did have a problem last year with one mirror fixing slipping off the door mirror – the door mirror is slightly bevelled and also has an indentation between the body of the mirror and the rim. It may well be that the Kodiaq mirrors are of similar design.

    My problem has been entirely solved by the use of the Milenco Aero F pads, which have a small ridge on the face of the pads, which fits into the indentation on the door mirrors. These pads are well hidden on the Milenco website and I have not seen them well publicised. I got mine from www.thecaravanshop.co.uk , where they are stock number 4664 and cost £6.95 plus £1.95 p&p. Well worth it for peace of mind.

    Hi

    A PS to my previous response. I have also got into the habit of fitting the mirrors and tightening the clamps a littie time before I tow, and then tightening them again just before departure. They do seem to 'settle' a bit and can then be tightened further.

    I've towed with a VW Golf SV for the last 3 years and the only mirrors I could find that were suitable were the Milenco Aero 3 with the alternative fitting of the "V" pads.

    Many thanks for the help and advice. Rather than rely on the internet and guess work, I went to my local dealer to actually compare my mountings (bought in 2007) with the new Aero 3 mountings. I could see zero difference and indeed neither could the dealer! Mounting on the bottom of the mirror feels much more secure, but won't let the mirrors fold in. Checking the instruction manual for the car, however, I have found the menu setting to disable the "fold in on lock" option so the mirrors stay out.

     

    Fingers crossed - a solution seems to have been found

    Just to put your mind at rest, I had exactly the same problem with my last Touareg and I fitted them on the bottom of the mirror and used them during the two years I had that car with no problems whatsoever.  The new Treg has slightly different mirrors and they fit on the top OK.
