Check out operator in Tesco, maybe, using the Shogun to commute! The Shogun might not be viable as a delivery vehicle but a short commute to work there and back should not be a problem and it would give it the necessary daily run! If it's only a few miles, the cost will be minimal. So that may not be an entirely pointless future prospect!

Iceland stores were on radio 4 this morning talking about the same subject.

When you think back, everything was loose wasn't it, looks like we'll be returning to the old ways. wink

There seem to be quite a few positive comments from an EV owner on the EV thread though, CY. So it might turn out to be the best thing since sliced bread!

No doubt sliced bread was also uneconomically expensive for many users. Economical for those producing lots of sandwiches perhaps. smile

Seems like an ideal job for now, it would save you thousands of pounds a year, you could even take your wife along and she could sit at the next till and get paid!

Just think of all the points you could accumulate - a Win/win/win etc all round

If only it was so easy...

Online aptitude test, interview including group assessment then a wait to see if your available hours match gaps in their rota allocations. You can express a preference for check outs but no guarantees

    Even for Christmas temp jobs

I don't think it's like for like Malcolm, the one I think you are referring to is a Hybrid type not a fully electric, like yours will be.

Different animal really. Lots more range and less charging, I believe wink

One problem that I have is that when a manufacturer says 99 miles range I hear 80 miles.

At least they would not be sending you out to make deliveries in your own car without sufficient recompense!

Especially when there website claims 57 mpg for the urban cycle in a petrol 4/2 and 54 mpg in a petrol 4/4.

So if Malcolm's figures are accurate at 28 mpg he only gets about 50% of what they claim. Translate that to the EV and your range would be down to 50 miles. Even allowing for closer to 40 mpg for the petrol, would equate to a around a 30% overestimate. Translating to an EV range of 70 miles.

These manufactures figures are all done under laboratory conditions and have little relevance to the real world.

JayEss,  Nothing worthwhile is life is normally easy but he probably would have more success now than in 4 years time.

What has he got to lose from applying now for himself and his wife. It  always seems easier getting a job when you are already in employment

Our local veg shop is the same. Most veg goes straight into the shopping bag in its original state, after he has priced it. If a bag is required, say for loose sprouts, it is brown paper.

Supermarkets could easily do this if there was a will. Those price labels the weighing scales produce, would stick just as easily on a paper bag.

Nothing to lose and it would be a good fit. You can even earn stars wink Staff discount at some point too

It's worth registering and completing the online assessment if anyone is interested then if a job turns up you are ready for it.

It’s amazing what a thread like this prompts one to do, just checked the interweb and amazed to find there are over 2500 part time jobs available in Sussex, not all of them at Tescolaughing

    probably pointless

Yes and I've just flagged up the changes to Tesco card points. Which is pointless for me as I rarely shop there.  wink

At least with Tesco/Asda/Sainsburys etc they are proper jobs with reasonable working conditions which pay above minimum wage. Aldi pay the highest wages of the supermarkets I believe.

No sales targets, no expenses to find and claim back, decent breaks, paid time off. I could be tempted

I suspect that if you drove a smart EV hard at 70 mph on the motorway for a couple of hundred miles you would be hard pushed to average over 40mph with the recharge stops.

EDIT: What are you frightened of, leaving your wife at home for a few hours maybeundecided

If you were to move to Tesco, you could work anywhere, so possibly a more affordable  part of the country, also your wife could also get a job there. Win Win if you ask me, and don't forget the staff discount 10% I believe, more of those lovely Tesco points wink

Yes, things have changed see the announcements today.

I don't have any attachment to a particular shop, tend to go for the "yellow" labels in most of them. I'd rather have better value food than think I've got points for anything. So on the whole I'm pointless.....wink

When I worked at the nearest town I shopped at Tesco, dazzled by everything in one store, and loyalty points, but soon realised that they were not that cheaper and having to make expensive purchase to have vouchers that wasn't worth much. Went back to shop locally supporting local economy, plus what I can't get at Aldi and find that I have saved far more than the voucher value.

Thanks for the link oneputt.  We only shop occasionally in Tesco these days, so it will not affect us much.

Like others we are frequent Lidl and Aldi customers.
