I wonder why some drivers have no idea how to drive when it's icy?

I've taken my car in for a small paint job this morning (not my fault!) and the road to the repair shop runs by a canal and was a sheet of glass yet this short section of road had 2 cars in the hedge bottom.

It appears they just treated the road as any other day and just slid off the road! undecided

WHAT, When we have had recall, warranty or service on either the Toyota or Santa Fe we have had a courtesy car from the dealer and have never paid a penny, suppose Welsh dealers are more generous.

Think of the Tesco points you will miss out by not buying fuel at Tesco.

Bright and sunny day today here but oh boy is it cold, -11c last night and the frost hasn't melted for the last 2 days, no wind though.

Well eldest son went south on Sunday, we took him to Edinburgh to catch his flight to Southampton at mid day. Just have eldest granddaughter left with us, we take her back to boarding school on Wednesday. Its been lovely having them stay but it will be nice to get back to normal and have the house to ourselves. I need to go back on my healthy eating having put on 5lbs over the festive season frown

OH playing with his new TV which arrived half an hour ago. I'm off to the Dr's with granddaughter to get her ear checked before going back to school, she perforated it just before Christmas.

No, we are not make driven, we look for a dealer that will give us the best deal when we want to change vehicles. Courtesy car  appears the norm around us here whether you buy new or used.

Can't beat -11 but it was -7 according to the greenhouse thermometer this morning.

We had a roofing contractor here this morning repairing the carport roof which was damaged last week courtesy of storm Eleanor. 77mph winds up here in the high Pennines last week took a sizeable portion of the roof and dumped in the garden.

Well when the X-Trail went in for a recall to check air bags I did not expect a courtesy car. Car was bought elsewhere, I doubt that there was great profit for the dealer as he probably just had to uncover to check a batch number on it. Was happy to take a free 10 minute bus ride into town and back a few hours later.

Kia is recalling nearly 150,000 Optima and Rondo models over defective airbags, according to the automaker and the federal government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. ... According to the NHTSA, the assembly may become damaged over time, placing high resistance on the driver's airbag electrical circuit

    Obviously not UK

I must admit I found it a bit of a challenge when this thing afflicted me just over 3 years ago (my, time flies when you are having fun, doesn't it?). I used to bake my own bread and found it extremely frustrating to find that even my best efforts always tasted like some sort of Madeira Cake.

However I've now had a long time to get accustomed to it. There are some decent products on the market, sadly not much of it bread but I do find M & S a big help as they produce a decent Multi Seeded Loaf and also have a wide variety of Wheat Free products. They also use things like Rice flour in most of their sausages which is a big help.

The big problem is still eating out and the general lack of education as to how serious the problem can be. I was once offered a cheesecake in a restaurant for dessert on the basis that it was only the base that was made with wheat flour and I could leave that, couldn't I?undecided

You just have to take control yourself and I have no trouble in being up front with pubs or restaurants before ordering, sometimes even speaking to the chefs/cooks.

Interesting to see that there is currently a criminal case ongoing where a young lass died as a result of eating a takeaway that contained nuts or residue. The consequences can be serious.

Anyway to brighter things. Mrs.WN's birthday today so even though we are supposed to be cutting back on the alcohol etc. after Christmas I've decided that only the best will do and we're having a bottle of champers later on.

Fortunately the Tattinger and Bollinger had sold out and I've had to make do with the one from Aldi.smile

Personally I generally prefer to do with out. Many garages have a hefty excess that you sign up for. Much larger than the one on my own insurance. Some will let you pay a fee to cover this, but some its take it or leave it.

Delighted to say weather returned towards summer Sunday and will continue this week around the mid 20s. Just how I like it. We had an large deep low pressure pass over very slowly, roads washed away campgrounds evacuated etc.

Most folks back to work Monday but children summer holidays finish end of January. Youngest granddughter poorly tummy on Sunday so daughter didn' work Monday so nice day together after a few apart. We're collecting eldest granddaughter from kindy after 1230 for the afternoon, her time with us without youngest. Tomorrow afternoon we have them both, Thursdays off and Friday with daughter and granddaughters.  She' doing condensed hours whilst we're here.

Daughter seems fine but working, fulltime 2 young children, one who doesn't sleep through and little partnership help - zip it tight 😇😉 all take their toll.

We seem to have sussed day and night, always easier this way we find coming home hardest 😂. But instant grandparenting is tough our energy levels haven't grown with them. So sound sleeps are the order of the day.

On a lighter note you're able to choose your number plate and if approved use it. We've just chatted to the folks who have

    YBHOME on their motorhome.

It didn't take long in the end. By 11 a.m. they told us it was ready. After that, we filled up diesel at Tesco Extra Shoreham which cost a bit over £80 and then drove it back to the house address to swap it over for the Smart car. We got back to our caravan by 13:15 in time for lunch!

I would imagine she laughed as much as the rest of us bakers2 laughing

Glad your summer weather has returned. I hope your campsite wasnt one of those evacuated.  I am very envious. It is very cold and rather dank here. Enjoy your grandparenting time, although it is tiring. We had wall to wall grandchildren for 3 days last week as the parents were back to work and children still off school. We were exhausted by the end. I usually like a day off in between to recover my energy levels. I love them to bits though. Have a wonderful time with your family.
