We have just returned from a wonderful 3 night break at Edinburgh CC site. It snowed on Thursday night which made walking about the site a bit tricky even although it is winter the site was full I suspect a lot of people will be staying there to attend the New Yrar celebrations in the city tonight. We visited the Royal Yacht on Friday which as always was great and yesterday we took a drive over the new Queensferry Crossing very impressive piece of engineering. The drive home today wasn't the most enjoyable it was very windy so the van was getting blown about a bit but luckily the wind had died down a bit by the time we reached Glasgow but then it started pouring so the last 40 mins of our journey was spent in poor visability. Tonight we are heading to our local pub for the annual new years party.

Aren't you away MM?  Or have I missed something (tend to skip over some posts!).  If you are still away why are you sitting watching TV?  Surely better more interesting things to do in the area?

How did you find towing a caravan in the wind again, Francis?

Dry day today with a lovely bit of sunshine, kids and Gkids gone off for the day shopping. Nice to have a bit of peace and quiet wink

Went out for some fresh milk then a walk and drive in the lovely sunshine, noticed lots of branches down after last nights high wind, the streams (burns) are over flowing and running fast but the rivers seem to be coping ok. Its always a worrying time of year here because if the hills get lots of snow then a fast melt with added rain the rivers flood.

Tonight will be a late night even though we don't bother that much, the neighbours and the village hotel have a big Ceilidh then fireworks, so no point in going to bed until its over. If it wasn't for the family staying we would more than likely have gone away in the MH somewhere quietwink

Malcolm, aircon? reallysurprised and how would that work with the LV?

After doing all the cooking over the festive period, I decided I needed a night off last night, so we ordered a Chinese,  had some fortune cookies, mine said I'd be going on an exotic trip early in the new year, well we're off to Burrs site at Bury, not exactly exotic!  surprisedlaughing

Weather not as good as forecast, so after a quick trip out for milk we've been trying to complete the jigsaw we started, over Christmas.

Off to local pub tonight to see in the near year.smile

Wishing everyone a Happy and Peaceful New Year.

    Really?

I cannot say I would be influenced by a firework display!

And Dubai is certainly not on my list of places to visit on holiday.

Me neither KjellNN,  they all seem to compete with each other for the best display, just money going up in smoke, IMO of course.wink

When I was young, we had a few fireworks at new year.......we were allowed to set off the out of date distress flares from our boat.

Strictly only permitted between midnight and 00.05 on 1st January, and not out at sea!

OH said the car park at Asda was like a mad house!  She just got home before the weather took a turn for the worse, now lashing rain here.

At least the snow has gone.

When I plan a holiday the local area, history, and scenery is my deciding factor anything else is a bonus.

Went for a nice walk around Clumber today, fairly mild and sunny. Walked past the caravan site, which seemed fairly full, a lot more in residence than when we went by just before Christmas. Car parks on the grass where getting torn up a bit due to the wet weather, it is going to take a while for them to recover.

    Happy new year to all.

But you can't judge these things on one's personal preferences. I am sure Malcolm is perfectly correct in his assessment of the effects of putting on a large firework display. All those people that clearly do flock to such events usually pay to get there and then often pay for food and drink whilst there so the economic effect is probably quite substantial and would be diminished if the display was not there. Over two million people went to London on Millenium Night and most wanted to see the fireworks. They were wonderful, I was there!

I took it that he meant these places hoped to attract tourists at other times of the year, not just tourists to see the fireworks.

    Hence my reply.
