KjellNN I recorded a sleigh ride on BBC 4 yesterday evening. Started to watch it this afternoon. 2 hours and 5 minutes of a sleigh journey 200 miles above the Artic Circle. So far I've watched about 30 minute very tranquil and relaxing what they now call slow television, no sound at all. Any information is put on screen. It did name the place it was filmed but apart from starting with K I can' recall it. If you were born and bred somewhere like this you must find this country very busy. 😆

I think, but not sure without personally checking, that you just might be a "Y Chromosone" short, Bakers.

    Get well soon, though.

Been dashing about today, apart from work, quick trip into town and a dash in and out of a couple of shops. Then out to the farm shop to put in an order for Christmas, didn't have time to browse, just as well as I usually end up spending loads surprisedembarassed.

Written a few cards to hand deliver and take to the pub later. OH has been putting friends car back together ready for MOT tomorrow, it should pass now undecided.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling to good Bakers2,  let's hope it doesn't develop into "flu" I've been sniffing and sneezing for a few days but it's not got any worse. Hope you get the oven repaired.

Thanks Helenandtrevor I've felt it about for a good week, had hoped it wasn't going to develop - still might not if I swallow enough vits!

Glad you got your order in at the farm shop without additional expenditure 😉. Are your boys home for Christmas?

    Swearing worked then 😉?

Bakers2,  Both boys will be here for Christmas,  although eldest and his girlfriend will only be here for the day, not sure how long youngest is back for yet, will probably split his time between us and his girlfriends family.

Swearing worked laughing he said today that our friend had taken her car to a garage to do the back brakes , but when he checked them garage had only done half the  job! surprised

That's disgusting. You need to be able to do the job yourself to ensure what you've paid for has been done. We're all at someone else's mercy!

Be nice to have the boys home. We still don' know if son's partner making a visit 😉. She's lovely but quite happy if she doesn't 😂.

No its not good, apparently they charged her over £200 too.

OH has just done the front brakes, they were that worn it wasn't safe to drive surprised

We are not sure if our youngest son's girlfriend will be paying us a visit over Christmas either.

    Was it Kirkenes?

Yes born just above the Arctic Circle, but have lived here since 1970, plus another 4 years studying here before that, which was when I met my dear OH.

So about 24 years living in Norway as against 51 years here.

Yes, Norway is lovely, but these days the State is far too prescriptive and way too far into high taxes which they think will make a difference.

However, Norway is so small compared to the rest of the world, about the same as Scotland, that anything they do is but a fleabite to the World.

I much prefer living in Scotland, but would not like to live in the heavily populated parts of England.......a step too far!

Norway is often held up as a great place to live, the Oil Fund is supposedly fantastic, and UK is done down for not having done something similar.   What  people forget is that Norway has as much oil as UK, but only a fraction of the population.

I find, talking to my relatives, that they live in a "different world" to us, a world of very high prices, high taxes, and somewhat higher wages.  Overall, they are no better off unless they travel abroad on holiday.

Even that is not so good these days as the kroner has apparently slumped......as experienced by my much reduced pension this month!

Must be an age thing, I do feel the cold more as I get older.

However, homes in Norway are better insulated and they do tend to keep them very well heated......too hot for our liking often.....so it may be that.

My Mum was always saying she felt cold when she came here!

KjellNN it was Ka start to the place name. So glad brue has added a link, thank you brue, I couldn't seem to 😲.

I find this part of England crowded more than ever these days. But it is what I know. Still have mum who's village has lost both pubs and 3 shops since I was a child - don't want that myself, I like to walk to shops doctors and dentist. The village still has a church and primary school.

Much like my Dad Kj, brought up in Canada, warm homes, big basement boilers...never mind he got used to the way we did things here, windows frozen on the inside, huddling round a fire...the he got bronchitis every winter till the Brits discovered central heating. wink
