There's also the convenience of not having to drive there and wait in a queue of cars to fill up petrol.

If I plug into the caravan socket, this job will get done overnight whilst I'm asleep! When I wake up in the morning, the car will be fully charged ready for use. What could be better than that?
Plugging into the caravan socket may well be dangerous and will the site owners allow this anyway, have you tested it beforehand to see if it works? No I thought not!
Better make sure that you have the Fire Brigade / Breakdown etc. on speed dial on you phone
This whole situation is beyond my comprehension and IMHO you are heading for a major disaster.
Good luck with it all as I'm sure many others on here will not want to say, "told you so"

Running an EV with a small battery and no range extender only works on short local journeys. Anyone considering an EV for normal use needs a range extender, this is a small petrol motor that tops the battery up.
This is just a general comment from me as our BMW EV has been successful due to it's more advanced technology.
If anyone is thinking of buying an EV there is quite a bit to consider before making a purchase.

Yes Millie we can. It was inevitable there would be a response this morning.
The only reason I have responded is because we have an EV and I want to dispel myths. I am not interested in someone's detailed lifestyle and spending habits. Hope you all have a good day, nice sunny start here.

Frosty at home too. Waiting for it to warm up a bit so that I can wash the dust off the MH from all the block cutting when the driveway was done earlier this week.

Me too! My shopping is getting ourselves a new EV environmentally friendly car for our Christmas present! Maybe the salesman will be able to buy nice presents for his family too from the commission he earns out of this sale. So everyone's happy!

First Family Christmas gathering this weekend. Our son and family arrived last night from Derbyshire and pitched a small two man (father and daughter) tent in a field. They camped out last night (-3 and frost inside the tent) for part of The Dragon Challenge for Scouts. Meanwhile the rest of the family were warm and cozy inside.
We were all together again after morning milking for bacon sandwiches and coffee. They're off out to Keswick now while I get on with tonight's supper (only ten of us), and if time - decorate the trees!

Frosty start for our early walk again ,sun was just coming up but at least the cold wind had dropped,most snow now gone except for a few lumps where snowmen had been and big pile in grounds of the "big house" where there was a huge snowman,
Where we are there are a lot of elderly people(we are young in comparison)and the most common vehicles visiting recently have been on call doctors and ambulances,three have been taken to hospital one did not survive,so already we have been to a funeral on friday (in Surrey) we have another next thursday + plus this latest one to be arranged,
The Daughter of one in hospital phoned this morning with a positive update that she may be home next week,
one thing she did say was that when at the hospital overnight, (in A&E) she realised just how under pressure they are and it is not just talk,a lot of patients were quite elderly,and trollies with ambulance staff in attendance were queueing up even in the early hours, at one point she counted nine ambulances at A&E,and the staff in A&E did not seem to get any time for breaks and this was even not at a weekend0 -

Glad your brave son and granddughter can have the benefit of a warm fully functioning farmhouse 😲. How lovely to have so many family round your table - I could be jealous 😉. I suspect you will get some tree decorating done today, hopefully with the help of family. Enjoy it all.
No shopping for us today 😉 off to mum for a visit. Been gathering bits together for our trip over last few days - we seem to have all we need 😆.

We woke up to a very frosty morning today we left the heating on on a low setting last night which meant the van was still warm when we got up. Now sitting with a coffee SWMBO says there is a christmas fayee on close to the site so might take a walk over there. Hope everyone else has a nice day

Cold and frosty here too, just been over to the caravan to collect the bits I left on Tuesday when we took it back. At least most of the snow had gone. Caravan is absolutely filthy but cleaning will have to wait, no point trying to wash it the water would only freeze.
Called in at the farm shop on the way home, lots of really scummy food, was tempted by all the different cheeses, also some chorizo sausages.

EVs are certainly the future, but I think there is still some way to go to perfect the technology, presumably extending the range is the main problem, and the other will be providing enough charging points.
My nephew in Norway has a Tesla, it's a company car but his to use, this summer he drove from Oslo to my home place just inside the Arctic Circle, a journey of about 800 miles. There was a lot of stopping to charge, about every 100 miles, so a lot of coffee drinking! This extended the journey time considerably.
In Norway the Government has instructed councils that all roads are to have charging points installed at intervals of 30 miles, though I have not read how many or whether they are to be free. Once everyone goes electric they will need a lot of them!
With large government subsidies on new EVs and the fact that the EVs were given free parking and did not have to pay road tolls, ownership has grown exponentially. So much so that some of the companies collecting tolls in urban areas are on the verge of going bankrupt, and councils are finding their income from parking charges has plummeted, so the word there now is that pretty soon all the freebies and subsidies will be removed.
All electricity in Norway is from HEP, so making more of it does not increase pollution at the point of production, unlike in UK at the moment. However, making cars and batteries does produce pollution, so that is something to consider, as is how we in UK are going to produce all this extra electricity that will be needed.
We have a friend in Somerset who has an EV, she loves it, but uses it pretty much only on short trips as finding charging points can be a challenge still.
Brue, the EV with range extender sounds like a really good idea at the moment, making the vehicle more suitable for longer journeys.

Everyone sounds very Christmassy
. We have had a quick trip into town this morning (well as quick as the buses would allow) and then filled the bird feeders since we got back. I am now going to try and sort out what we need to take with us to N.Ireland - mostly presents with not much room for clothes by the look of things!! This evening we are going to an Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) concert in the Cathedral. I have my thermals at the ready!!Well done to your son and grand-daughter Goldie - rather them than me! Have a lovely family weekend.

I had not realised, until Margaret ended up in A&E in Abergavenny, that Ambulance crews had to stay with their patients until they were officially handed over to the hospital. So all the time people are queuing on trolleys in corridors they have to wait and this can sometimes be hours! No wonder people sometimes have to wait a long time for an ambulance to arrive!

Hope you enjoy the concert Millie. We've just been out to NT Barrington Court to hear one of our local choirs sing west country Christmas carols and songs, (daughter in the choir) it was lovely. They sing the "old" versions of carols so we heard familiar words sung to different tunes from Devon, Dorset, Cornwall etc. A soloist sang a good Gloucestershire version of the Holly and the Ivy, we all joined in the chorus. We have a village near us where the old tunes are still sung at Christmas, they pre-date church organs when local musicians played various instruments, often found in Thomas Hardy tales.
Next task, back to reality, icing the Christmas cakes, having a break for a minute.
