Web site states that the 2018 brochure will be delivered with the December Magazine for those that have travelled abroad with the club in the last two years. That includes me but alas no brochure has arrived.

Have others received theirs.

    Harry,

Ours didn't arrive with the magazine either. I know all the info is on line, but I do like a brochure to browse through. Gave the club a ring this morning and was told they would put one in the post for us 😊

Had mine about two weeks ago, not decided yet if it's going to be "over there" or "stay here".

Nothing in our mag either, we did book a feryy via the Club, and take out RP.

However, we have our ACSI card on order, and will shop around for ferries.

Nope not received ours.  Have booked with the club for the last two years.  Had an interesting conversation with a lady on the stand at the NEC who gave me her utmost assurance it was on its way (it wasn't).

Ended up ordering it on line again.

Now come on WTG and AD. You are both vastly experienced at European travelling so of course what the Club offers, other than perhaps ferries and insurance, is of no practical use to you because you have been there and no doubt have the T-shirt. However there are many who have none or little experience of taking their caravan/motorhome to Europe and what the club offers is the comfort of support that many people want. This may be on an ongoing basis or it might just be for the first trip. The poor fellow who had lost his EHIC card had probably been warned on forums like this how important it was to have one!!!

I remember meeting someone on a site in Spain who had been away for almost 2 months in their caravan using ONLY camping cheques that he had bought through the club because he thought it was the only way he could do it. They were not inexperienced caravaners  and it wasn't their first time abroad.

We had a long talk with them about all the other ways folk can travel and pay for sites abroad without booking in advance, it was end of May.

They did admit that some of the sites they had stayed on were not to their liking but they had stayed because they had to use the CC frown

I think the Venture Abroad booklet is catering for several categories of Club members

    a) the middle aged and elderly who have not travelled overseas before

    b) those of a cautious or anxious frame of mind.

    c) those with plenty of money.

    d) those who are not comfortable to be alone.

    e) many with no foreign language skills at all.

The Venture Abroad brochure fills all those needs rather well and is likely to be profitable.

There are these people out there that are taking their first step and are indeed worried. Once that first step has been taken they probably would never need the cosseting ever again, they would find out for themselves that its an adventure that can be of their own making and so move on. They will always be replaced the next year by others wary of their first ever touring trip abroad.

It's a clientele that is forever being replaced, not long term members.

When we do venture over the water ,I don't want anyone holding my hand , I would want to organise my trip to suit myself . that's not to say I wouldn't ask for advice on CT before we went

Google Translate will aid your communication even if it will not win you many friends with Acadamie Francais.

    You and me both Husky

I have told many people how easy it is to get the train down from Delhi to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, and then move on down to Gwalior Fort, but they seem reluctant to believe me. They all prefer what the glossy Trailfinders brochure offers instead - at a price.

I never started my caravan adventures into Europe by anyone holding my hand, eventually the opportunity arose and after advice on here five years ago I just went for it with no sites booked, and its been that way ever since with the exception of maybe the first and/or last night.

But I would never decry anyone that needed a bit of hand holding, especially if it introduced them to a far wider adventure than the UK offers, be it touring or other.

Can help you with much of India, but not Shimla. Sorry.

But Taj Mahal is a must and Maya Hotel Restaurant just around the corner is very respectable at £17 for a double room.

Back to Europe, there are definitely advantages in booking ferries and campsites through the Club.

Our last ferry crossing from Hull to Rotterdam and return, on P & O was much cheaper through the Club, the 'van travelled free.

French sites do get full at times.  In the mountains, when the Tour de France is passing through, it will be very busy. The campsites usually require a deposit for bookings, and quite often an administrative booking fee as well. Can be expensive to transfer the money, not all take credit card payments. Much easier to book through the Club.

And the brochure is always wonderful to browse through on a dark winter's night.

We're all different, Enjoy your travels everyone. 😊😊😊
