Looking for a Site on LLyn Peninsula
Hi all looking for site suggestions on the Llyn Peninsula - probably near Abersoch. Looking to stay 4 or 5 nights late August.
I had considered The Willows near Abersoch but having looked at their website I am unsure.

Twice we have used 'Garreg Lwyd Farm', the site only has a short narrow road from the main road and the CL field is well draining and faces south. Since last time I think they have opened another field to the left of the entrance road so probably shared WC/Shower, other than that it has all facilities and good location for both sides of the peninsula coast.
Nice wide field entrance and pitching is at the top of the field and slightly sloping, but then becomes more of a slope towards bottom.
WC/Shower about 70/80 metres away unless things have changed since 3 years ago.

doubt if itll be your cup of tea, Alan, but the Haven site at Hafan y Mor is well away from other 'activities/noise' but stands on its own right as a really nice camp site, modern, clean, great showers/toilets (for those who rate sites in this way) and direct access to the beach.
handy for Porthmadog/Portmerion in one direction and Absersoch in the other.

We've used that one too. It is all grass though, but shouldn't be a problem in the fine summers we have.

Alan - we have friends at Abersoch, and have stayed at lots of sites around there but now stay at her cottage overlooking the bay. What sort of things are important to you? We have usually stayed at the Bwylchtocyn end of Abersoch (out of Abersoch towards the headland), which is further away from 'the madding crowd') but might be able to help with suggestions.
Many of the sites around Abersoch are on hilly terrain - might this be a problem?

Have stayed at Pant Gwyn CL site a few years ago and it was just a field's walk to the coastal path. It's on the north of the peninsula, just west of Morfa Nefyn, with a postal code of Pwllheli and address in Tudweiiog!
Nevertheless, it was a beautifully kept field with newly built showers (50p) and the walks along the coastal path to Nefyn were superb. Turn in the opposite direction to find beautiful beaches and coves which were deserted when we went.
I played golf at Nefyn and some of the holes and views were stunning.

I'm not good on hills Val. Or more to the point my hips aren't
I prefer hardstanding pitches outside the caravan door.
Looking at the map I realise that the Haven site suggested by BB is on the old Butlins site where I stayed with 4 friends just before my 17th birthday 48 years ago!

whoops, sorry Alan, missed the 'date'.....while i do recommend some Haven sites, i always add the rider about 'only when its quiet'....

PS, weve used the C&CC site at Llanystumdwy, as mentioned by WTG too....very handy for the eastern villages but possibly a bit further from Abersoch?...in a car youd be fine, though.

However, recently on CT, when this subject cropped up, someone recommended a CS in the same village. We intend to try that the next time we travel to the Llŷn.
The CS is Tyn-Ddol. While it does not have hard standings I found the ground quite solid. There is also a toilet and shower available.

Looks a decent CL, Boff, but may not suit EasyT, as the arrival time is 2:00!!

No, don't fancy 2pm arrival. The site would be the first stop of seven sites, Normally when leaving from home I would let works traffic go and leave after 9am. It is a two hour drive and would not wish to twiddle thumbs until 12am.
I know of other sites with 2pm arrival. To be honest it is poor in as much as when does one get a bite to eat?

Or you could always ring up and ask, the owners were very accommodating.
We are currently on a CL with a 2pm start, we realised we could get there by 12 30, we rang up left a message and owner got back told us that would be fine. But also thanked us for asking.

What put you off The Willows, Alan?
The problem around Abersoch is that all the best sites seem to be taken over by 'seasonal pitches' with Hobby caravans set up for the whole season. We used to like staying at Penrhyn Campsite at Bwylchtocyn (hardstandings), which is near to my friend's house, as well as multiple stays at Beach View, but recent reviews suggest that the latter is 95% 'seasonal' now. It wasn't when we used to stay there, because it didn't have hook-ups.
I can't find recent reviews of Penrhyn on 'serious' camping forums, though on TripAdvisor it does get good reviews.
The other site we used to stay at was merely for convenience, as it was almost next door to my friend's house, but I wouldn't recommend it due to the primitive toilets and showers! Interestingly it doesn't even appear to be featured on google - though it still exists and we pass it every time we drive to her house!

The other question is do you want to visit Abersoch in the Summer holidays? It is generally crowded and turns into Alderly edge on Sea. Parking can be difficult as well. Just my opinion but unless you have yacht I would avoid it during the Summer.

We decided that we would use The Willows and we should be able to arrange to get on site a little earlier in the day. We have also decided to delay our start for September until Friday 31st August and to stay for 6 nights at the first stop. We will probably only call in at Abersoch itself on one of the 'quieter' days.

I had not given my 2 pennyworth till now as I cold not understand why anyone retired would want to go to a honeypot in mid summer.We go to LLeyn many times per year and over the last 2 years used Haven as the base. Superb site, bus access. Much better value than any Cl (But as all provisos- out of school holiday times). Beware parking is a problem and the wardens trained by the Gestapo. Grass verges with no lines are considered legitimate targets- be warned. As for scenery, walks, great but as someone else said Abersoch is a pit, full of Hoo Hay henries in summer.
