Thanks for that.
I don’t doubt that you’ve not used the sites as a non-member. Why would you?
I’m a little puzzled as to why a non-member is so embroiled in the club’s ways.

Deleted User User,
It has been previously stated that booking a site or a number of sites withdraws those pitch nights from the system stopping others from using them. i.e you have ( or should have) made a commitment.
Now, if you then change your mind outside the 72 hr window you have probably given someone the chance ( probably not the person who tried to book months ago) to use the pitch instead. On the other hand, if say after 3 nights you decide to cut short your stay and move to your next location, it is unlikely that pitch will be resold to anyone.
It may well be acceptable under the CAMC Rules but I would suggest that someone has been deprived of the opportunity to stay there.
I accept that as a whole the CAMC has not lost any income but it could have seen increased income.

I'd totally agree with this. Sledge hammer to crack a nut, an extremely small if not insignificant one in the grand plan of things I would guess.
We should be very carefully about what we wish for. Whatever happens, if anything at all, it would will be greeted very differently by different folk. Of course, those 'every folk' will always claim to be in the majority won't they!

I have probably made alterations half a dozen times in the last 7 years. On three of those occasions the club has gained a couple of site nights. One was that that I mentioned above, on two other occasions I simply left a couple of days early for the first site and decided that it did not warrant more than a 5 night stay and juggled my bookings to increase a couple elsewhere by a night.
It is always possible that the nights I cancelled on a particular site could be the very ones somebody needed. We shall never know.

Of course! What a plan!
There are far better forums than C&CC but I don’t think CT can be classed as efficient and user friendly. However we do meet a good mix of people here. Old friends and new.

but there seem to be no more than 7 posts in a day that I can find.
That’s because everyone in the CCC is blissfully happy and have little to complain about

Purely out of interest, and maybe putting aside Rowntree, Baltic Wharf and possibly Chatsworth (no system is going to solve the excess of demand for those particular sites) how many folk arguing for a change have actually been inconvenienced by not being able to book a club site they wanted to visit?

That’s what I meant, Easy, by "....a good mix of people here. Old friends and new".

sorry but I haven't paid a deposit for a hotel ever. also last year Cooks didn't need any deposit for a four figure holiday and it was six months before we had to pay the full amount

Castleton, Broadway, Grafham Water, Warwick RC, Meathop Fell and Braithwaite Fold (before it jumped ship) are all sites I’ve tried to book at one time or another since being a member and have been unable to.
Absolutely no fault of the Club, it’s just the way it is but if at those times there were last minute vacancies due to no shows, that’s annoying. Like others have said, i’ve no intention of constantly checking to see if there is any last minute availability 3 days before i’m due to travel in the hope that someone has had a change of heart just before a 72 hour deadline. Because of plans I might have or arrangements made to meet up with people, I can’t hope and pray that something becomes available, I have to book an alternative

sorry JS snap.
Yes the same for me. providing you cancel by a set time (usually 24 hours no penalty.

Unlikely? not at all, it will show up on the booking screen and someone will take it. I've often looked at late availability like this and if its a site I want I take it. A warden from a honey pot site once told me his manager asked him how they manged to get 107% occupancy rate? It was simple people left early and they resold that pitch to passing MH.
Is someone is set of a site on a certain date sorry but you have to do what the rest of us do and book early.
Luckily other products are available, I mean you don't have to use a club site, or do you?

As I've said before TW it is one of the greatest questions in the universe, why those who use club sites the least are the one who want so many changes and have so much advice how how the club should be run?

A very good point. I would think a round number and even then it will have due to late booking, The real problem is club sites are popular. Assuming this speculative booking myth is true, why would people speculatively book a site or place which is rubbish?

I too have benefited on a number of occasions from bookings suddenly becoming available. Last minute alterations to the stays of others have meant we could stay on longer at 'HP' sites or find that one or two night stops on those very busy sites. Sites can't be any more full than full so other venues may be used when thus.

You don't know a change of system would not solve excessive demand at popular sites. We don't have relevent statistics. I would put the prices up until demand reduced!
I have never been inconvenience when I wanted to book a site because you can always find somewhere else but the Club has on more than one occasion lost my booking. The only inconvenience might be the replacement site might not be so handy.

Common sense dictates that you always have an alternative site or dates if you can't book your first choice , or another provider .👍
It's not rocket science is it 🚀, whether you preferred choice wants a deposit or not , there's always somewhere else ....... to go 😇

When you find an alternative site and see how good they are, value and service you tend to stay with them. In our case Haven and Morris leisure have been a revelation with a lot of lost income to the club. So much so that at times they make Cls look expensive and poorer.

theyre not just booking the site/location 'speculatively', they are (for the most part) booking the site, the location and the weather....this is certainly what most folk want from their breaks, is it not?
if the latter turns out to be c**p most will forego the former two with a no penalty system..ie, cancel.....
under these circumstances (grim weather forecast) those pitches may well NOT be resold, unless you get a free umbrella like TW's

+1
quite simple isn't it?

well as i said it was six months before I had to pay anything, it probably wasn't last minute
Yes companies will do whatever it takes at that time to get punters to sign up, hence all the 0% car offer (btw these are a rip off) or no deposit whatever. Then when there is demand go back to normal

Book early you say - great if you know well in advance were you want to be
The physic failed to tell me I'd be meeting up with friends in 8 weeks time, useless she was... and as my telapathy powers are a little rusty these days...
Often, after booking the alternative site when the first choice prime Club site was showing as full, rain with a breeze was in the long range forecast and low and behold, that prime site is no longer showing full a couple of days prior to departure day...
Those that clearly cancelled just in the nick of time, did they make speculative bookings or not?
