We had a look at a couple of them that were on display the other day. There was a Kampa 260 and a Dorema Futura Air. The Dorema looked to be of better quality and more solid but cost quite a bit more coming in at £799, about £200 more than the Kampa.

Busy day today. Food shopping, caravan packing, car packing, hospital visit, window cleaning etc. It's not just KjellNN that's slaving away!
Anyway off to York for a week tomorrow so hoping to get to Blacktoft Sands and Fairburn Ings nature reserves as well as doing touristy things.

We've moved to an Omnistor awning. It sits on the roof of the caravan and we wind it out when we need it. We can also put in the sides and front.
Generally we find that now there are only two of us we don't use an awning nearly as much. The last time we used it was in the summer. For three weeks in Cornwall we used the roof end the sides. For our 5 nights in Pembrokeshire and 3 night at Blackshaw more we didn't bother at all. For our week just N of Leeds, we used the roof only. In summer 2016 when we went to Germany, France and Italy we only used the roof - didn't even take the sides with us. We haven't used it at all since August, and probably won't now until the Spring, at least.

Having gone to help a fellow caravanner with a jammed blow up awning I too thought them heavy.
We have not used an awning for the last 5 seasons as the current (and next caravan) have a spacious layout and we previously liked the awning for dining but now have side dinette.

On Wednesday after a 40 minute session with dental hygienist
We waited for our heating engineer to do a service and sort out an overflow that was dripping. He (and his apprentice were running late - nice to see an apprentice receiving good training from a damned good engineer). He did not arrive until nearly 5pm and thanked me for my good grace in not running our oil boiler after early morning. No fun working on a hot boiler and removing 7 hot baffle plates. We had a natter about his woes with the new swift that he bought in June. When he had finished the bill including minor parts was £85. He is based 38 miles from us and I always say fit us in when in this area as I appreciate his work and careful attention to detail. For minor works and window cleaner. grass cutting etc I pay cash. I pulled an envelope out of the drawer with cash for such events and quickly counted through, passed the notes to him and said 'I think it is £5 short, just check'. He counted and said 'close enough Alan'. I offered to get my wallet but he said 'No'. So I pulled out my wallet and winking at David (the engineer) gave the apprentice a fiver and said 'next time you are running late get yourself a takeaway on the way home'.
Whilst the loft ladder was down I retrieved the stored stuff not needed for present caravan as I shall take it to dealers on Monday or Tuesday in preparation for the PX for new caravan on 21st Nov.
Their must have been over 17kg of stuff that we don't carry. Top bunk ladder, cushions and wooden sides for bunk, sink cover, curtains for bunk/side dinette when made as a bed (they stay on a rail and fold into a narrow cupboard if in use - very neat), thin folding mattress for top bunk over dinette, large table not needed with dinette, direct water feed hook up, outside shower fitting.

We had a busy day too, yesterday. My wife had a dental appointment at Guy's Hospital in London. So we used the Smart car. I paid £11.50 for the congestion charge and the NCP parking fee came to £24.
The journey took two hours and fifteen minutes from our site in Lancing to the NCP car park. We left at 11:00 and arrived at 13:15. We had a snack lunch in the cafe inside the hospital main entrance which cost £12 for the two of us including a sandwich and a cup of tea. The appointment was at 14:45, so after lunch we had to wait about another hour before it was time. By 16:00 it was finished and so we headed back to the car park to collect our Smart car and head home, A23 followed by M23 and then A23 and finally A27. There was a bit of a hold up on the M23 due to an accident involving four cars, it seemed. So the journey home was delayed. We finally got back to our caravan at 19:30, a total of three and a half hours for our return journey.
The Smart car was brilliant in the London traffic with its automatic, no need to use a clutch or gear lever when stuck in traffic. Just foot brake and steering wheel and that's it! It makes driving in traffic a whole lot easier!

Very Windy bit bright start to the day,moving on today to a "5*?"commercial site for the weekend until Monday,need to be off here by midday as site full from today,but cannot arrive at next site before 1300hrs with a 40 min max? journey, may have to ask for a later dep from here

Isn't being cringeworthy the whole point of these shows? I had YTS trainees (shows my age!) who had more about them than the people that appear in that sort of programme. It seems interesting how many people are willing to put themselves forward for public humiliation.

On the last two occasions before this one, my wife took the train from Goring Station to London Bridge. That was because I was working those days. However, yesterday was a day off so we thought it might be nice to use the car for a change.

,Home early again today.Have to do some cooking ,,Bolognese sauce ,ready for emergency meals in the 'van etc .Away for my Birthday week-end tomorrow to C.C site at "Blackhorse Farm" ,Densole/Folkestone.Anybody passing ???The little 'Kitty' I rescued yesterday,has recovered
,been eating and drinking little bits,even beginning to walk about and play with bits of string etc ,,,yay,,saved him !! Oh ,,he's SO cute !!0 -
VERY tempted ,,,,BUT ,he's Feral so probably would'nt take kindly to house or motorhome travelling .0 -
Well........he could possibly be trained! My daughter-in-law found an abandoned kitten ( several years ago) outside her office and brought him home after taking him to the vet who estimated him to be about 10days old. She fed him on formula with a syringe every few hours and so did I when they went on holiday a week later. He grew up to the ripe old age of 16 and was a lovely cat! ........so....go on! Give it a try!!

We had a feral kitten. He was lovely with the family. I used to drape him round my shoulders whilst I was gardening. Soft as a brush with the kids. If a stranger stroked him though they were allowed 3 strokes and then he would have them

We had a feral cat, he became so soppy people complained about him wanting to be on their laps whenever he got the opportunity. We couldn't tame his Mum but we got the RSPCA to neuter her as we had seen some of her kittens getting weak and poorly. She produced beautiful kittens but lived under an outbuilding on a neighbours land and the weather could be very unforgiving.

Had a fairly easy motorway journey across the Pennines, although it was packed. Fortunately most of the route from Manchester to Leeds was average speed and it helped.
Now on an independent site about 3 miles from York centre. Lovely site, no toilet block but great hardstandings and free wi-fi for £13 per night. Bus stops right outside site. Sun has disappeared over the yardarm so we are having a glass of red.
Hope everyone who is away arrived safely. Have a good weekend (or longer).

Back to work this evening after two days off!
This morning we drove into Worthing and gave the Shogun a run, after which we went to fill up fuel for the Smart car before returning to our caravan for lunch.

Back home after four nights at Henley, Four Oaks. Weather was kinder than our visit a couple of years back as we only had one wet day. Had a pleasant trip to Marlow courtesy of our bus passes. A delightful place. Lots of red kites but uncooperative when it came to photos.

Well 5 days on antibiotics and I still feel rubbish, think its now going to my chest.
We are supposed to be going to see eldest grandaughter play hockey at her school tomorrow morning, will mean leaving here at 08.30
if its freezing conditions again tomorrow not sure I will be going.Then on Sunday she is in a Remembrance day parade and service at the school was also hoping to go to that to, not sure standing around in freezing cold is going to be a good idea though as we are due to fly to Spain for 2 weeks on Monday.

Getting on quite well in the kitchen, plinth built yesterday, plinth heater now installed and working, impressed with how effective it is.
Base units now in place and getting on with assembling the drawers. OH needs to decide where she wants the handles.
Just the worktop and base end panel to do, but will be at DD's tiling all weekend, so kitchen will be on hold till Monday.
We also need some new lights, both in the ceiling and to illuminate the new worktop, but that can be done later.

Tammygirl sorry to hear you still feel rubbish. Maybe yours is a classic case where antibiotics don't work? Not that it's much consolation, especially if it's going to your chest. Sadly I think you'e right about missing watching your granddaughter on both days, especially if you'e flying Monday. Hopefully some sun will do you good. Wish you better.

Look after yourself TG, standing around in freezing conditions will do you no good.
We usually go to our local service on the Sunday, but only if the weather is reasonable, if it is bad we watch the TV ceremonies instead, OH still has her cough so we are not taking any risks.

Hope you feel better soon tammygirl. What a shame you might have to miss the 2 days watching your grand-daughter but standing around in cold weather might not be a good idea. I hope some warm sunshine in Spain does the trick.
