Deposits yes / no

Another point to this Peedee is that whilst the average number of bookings on FD might only be 3, that could mean 50,000 members only make one booking and 10,000 members make something like 15 or 20. It’s an oblique stat.

Yes, if speculatively, that’s bad news, if the bookings are upheld, that’s just tough. But despite the club claiming to the contrary, I still think a fair number of bookings made on FD are in hope. It’s human nature to take advantage of the system, whatever the Club claim to the contrary.

Well, if nothing else comes out of this thread, it's interesting to see how many folk seem desperate to be able to book CAMC sites whilst we're told so often that commercials are so much better/cheaper/friendlier etc etc. Well done the club I say!

Exactly and why a deposit system could possibly reduce this happening.

I don't know about others but I have only booked one site on spec. That was probably 7 years or more ago and not at December as it was before I decided to book all in December for ease.
It was when I saw 5 nights free at Braithwaite Fold one February and booked for the September I think. Then a honeypot CC site now a honeypot C&CC site. I had been before and liked the location.
I looked at September hols late June and decided that a tour of the Lakes was due and so used it. If not I would have released it in June and it would likely have been used and welcomed by somebody.

We are like Tinwheeler, use several sites on a tour, we can be away for 2 -3 months in one go so that would be about 12-15 sites normally.
We tour, we don't go somewhere for a couple of weeks and then go home.
Touring is what the Club claims to cater for, how does that fit with restricting bookings when people are genuinely touring?

Nothing wrong is doing that if you use all the bookings made, I assume you would have no issue with paying deposits to secure the booking's then ?

If necessary, but as iI said earlier today, the fact there are no deposits is a unique feature. If it were removed, as a member of the other club too, I would be making more use of their sites as for us they work out a bit cheaper, and we get to book a hard standing.
There were deposits when we first joined CAMC back in 1998, £10 per booking I think.
Only illness, ourselves or a family member would result in us cancelling bookings.

I can't answer for K but: for me I might well book 100 nights on CC sites. It depends on the required deposit. If it were £10 like many commercial sites that would be £1,000. Not something that I would welcome on top of about £250 for commercial sites.

It would not necessarily have to be £10 per site (much too low for a deposit in my view) but it could be a percentage of the number of consecutive sites booked with a minimum charge much the same as if you were staying on a single site

Is the C&CC deposit not £25 per booking, or the whole fee if less?
I am happy with that level, would work out around £5 per night on average for us. £10 per night I would find excessive.
We would certainly be using far more C&CC sites or CLs if large deposits were brought in.

If they intend to make any changes for next year they will have to get a wiggle on as bookings start in less than a month from now!!! Mind you, assuming that they don't intend to introduce deposits, then I suppose anytime before the majority of sites open in March would do?

C&CC deposit is 25% of total booking cost with a minimum of £25

Kjell, if the sites are cheaper and you can book HS, why arent you using the CCC Sites instead, provided they were where you wanted to go?
surely these things are more important than a lost deposit as you dont book speculatively?

No mention of deposits was made in the posts on Facebook David, only a response was made to the query of not being able to book in advance of the frenzy day.

with the CCC deposit being £25 per booking (site) your (say) 7 stop tour would cost £175.
however (and this is important) the remainder you have to pay is £175 less

Not quite. The deposit is £25 per booking or, if less, full payment.

7.2 We will ask you to make an advance payment Deposit as notified to you at the time of Booking (which may be up to 100% where a promotional offer is being used) or otherwise 25% of total booking cost subject to a minimum charge of £25. If the total cost of the Booking is less than the minimum Deposit, we will charge the full cost at the time you make the booking. Your rights to a refund of the Deposit on cancellation are set out in Clause 8.
My last booking made with the C&CC was a 11 nighter at almost £300.00
They took a 25% deposit

No, we don't book speculatively, but it is good to have the option to alter sites or dates if necessary without too much bother. Not talking here about cancelling, just small changes of plan, and not last minute either, always well ahead.
I believe altering a booking with the other club is quite complicated, fortunately not had to try yet!
The saving we achieved from using C&CC sites with age discount was £3 per night, so a toss up between the small saving and the more flexible no deposit CAMC system. The fact the sites were in a better position for us (Cambridge, Salisbury and St Neots) was the decider.
Being able to book a HS was a nice bonus!
Remove the flexibility and the "no deposit" advantage and it becomes a no brainer as far as we are concerned.

Ive had to make some changes a couple of times, it’s a call to Coventry and all done by a pleasant lady on the end of the phone line. No drama

"If the total cost of the Booking is less than the minimum Deposit, we will charge the full cost at the time you make the booking."
That's what I said but a word was omitted from my post. It should have read " minimum £25".
Let me explain. If your total booking is, say, £18.50 then you will pay the total amount of your booking up front. That is £18.50, not £25.
