I would imagine that some people will book four nights instead of three to avoid paying and then cancel the last day once on site.🤔

The whole purpose of a Club is that all members are treated fairly so why treat some members differently to others? If you want to go down the road of prepayment it should be for all bookings not just three days or less. Probably would be an administrative nightmare as well.
Before we change anything we need proper research into what the problems are and then working out the best way to overcome those issues if they really exist.

Members wanting a pitch on oversubscribed sites will always feel the pinch of unfairness, maybe repeat weekend bookings by the same people on these sites could be checked out? Are there some weekend pitch hoggers or is this a myth?
0 -
Depends on how you classify pitch hoggers. I know that there are a number of members that use an individual site with great regularity at weekends. Is this hogging a pitch or merely booking a site to suit themselves?
There is nothing to stop me booking every weekend of the season on a site as far as I know.

but even if there such people they cannot be termed pitch hoggers? Everyone is entitle to book however many nights they wish (within the twenty whatever one site limit) What is wrong with booking a lot of weekends? If they don't turn up that is one thing but if they turn up how can it be wrong? In in my view there is nothing wrong with (if someone wanted to) booking every single weekend possible.

sorry didn't see that, snap

Also is it 'weekends' causing the problem? Does anyone really know that? A site could be two thirds full at other times, then its get full by those at weekends? maybe we should stop those staying across a weekend? Don't allow people to book Wed - Monday?
(PS This is a joke)

Of course the weekend is the most popular time. You only have to look at late availability for next weekend. Quite a number of sites have Sunday availability but not Saturday and this is in November not Summer.
The C&CC don't seem to have a problem at present until Christmas and New Year..
'When our pitches are in demand, we list the Club Sites which still have hardstanding and grass with electric pitches available over the next few weeks, so whether you are looking for last minute availability for your motorhome, tent, trailer tent, or caravan, we've got you covered.

I suspect we don't really know. However when the Club have provided information on sites bookings, immediately after the December booking day they have often given a general breakdown of booking behaviour and I am pretty sure when they have mentioned that the number of people who book lots of weekends has been fairly small. It would be nice to see some sort of official response to this thread so that we know whether we are dealing with fact or fiction? I suspect it's the case that there are a handful of sites that whatever the booking rules/system would always be full. There is an age old way of dealing with that situation and that is to up the price!!!

Ive just done a search, 10/11/2017 for 7 nights in Northern England in a caravan. Only 4 C&CC club sites with availability

From the Facebook comments made early October which I see you contributed to David, it’s clear the Club are looking at possibly changing booking protocol, so they’re unlikely to comment on this thread if they already have something in mind. I suspect we’ll hear about it in due course.

Is the C&CC late availability of little use then Nigel as it seemed to be saying that since Monday update their were no availability problems? As far as searching availability for Northern England how does that work? I can only Search in a max 50 mile radius. Also no idea which of their sites are open. To extract the info does one after master 'the Dark Arts'
I find getting general info on C&CC website very difficult. Not sure if it will get easier with practice.

Just did the same for CAMC. Had to do in two halves. NW and NE England. No idea if same area as other club, but for the same period only came up with 3 and one of those was Kilder Water which I think is affiliated and not taking touring bookings.
Just noticed one of the others was also affiliated and you have to phone to check for availability.

From the home page, on the left. You can search in a general area

Some restriction on the same members booking multiple weekends on the most popular sites such as Rowntree and Chatsworth would certainly help others get a look in.
There was someone a while back who claimed they booked Rowntree for multiple weekends every year.
Whether the Club's software could handle that is another matter!

There is no reason for not responding on here. Originally I spotted this info on FB and brought it up on a similar CT thread not long ago. I am not a FB user (OH is) information on here from the club is just as relevant, it's usually well received with thanks.

I understand your reasoning, but if there’s an imminent announcement, expect nothing until the Club are ready to spill the beans, if there’s any to spill.

But how many extra pitches can be released if needed, where we are now over the xmas/New year more pitches are being released on a rolling programme as req,and a lot of cc and ccc sites are able to work like that, it is down to local circumstances through the year

The C&CC have honeypots too yes, thankfully the ones I’m interested in I can book many months in advance and usually have no trouble whatsoever getting in Where are you looking to visit?

I find it very easy, more so if I know where I want to go, the site will tell me what type of pitch is available and I can make a decision. When I arrive at a site I will know I have the type of pitch I want and can usually choose it. Both clubs allocate pitches on very busy sites but the type of pitch is pre-booked with the C&CC.

Yes, there’s been this rumor in the past that the wardens will dictate which pitch is yours. If there are numerous available pitches on arrival, Ive always been given the choice.
Usually, before the warden gets on his/her bike to accompany you to your pitch, he’ll show you what is available on a map so you initially drive roughly in the right direction, once in the area of available pitches, the vacant ones are pointed out, you choose, then he radios to reception. No aimlessly driving around and around, which is often a problem at some CC sites.

Where are you looking to visit?
No idea yet Nigel. We will settle down with a map or two towards end of November and plan 3 main routes. If a C&CC site fits in a gap or is better placed we shall use it.
If we had been touring the lakes then Braithwaite Fold would have been one that I would have liked to revisit.
