Italien Explorer September 2018
I have been reading with interest the itinerary for this Italien trip.and would be very grateful for opinions/advice. We have been travelling with our motor home for 4 years in UK and France but have never been on an escorted tour. Don't really know what to expect? Would this be a good first timers tour? It does seem quite long but also ticks a lot of boxes.

I would ask the Club Travel Office whether it is a tour which has been run before and whether they can send you the feedback from previous tour members , because published online reviews don't seem to exist - which is itself surprising.

Is there a reason why you feel the need to be part of an escorted tour to Italy when you have toured France, I assume, independently? Travelling beyond France is no more difficult. OK you have to do a bit more research. We love Italy but prefer to make our own plans. We once met a group of motorhomers on a tour on a site we were on on Lake Como (not CMC) Whilst they seemed to be enjoying themselves one consistent complaint was that they did not stay in one place long enough. For us it would being tied to a set itinerary would tend to take the shine off the holiday.

Not sure which particular tour you are interested in. But we did the Sicily tournwith the 'other ' club a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. We are experienced European caravanners but went tomplaces and had experiences in Sicily which we would not have done on our own.
It was quite an adventure. We had great fun with our fellow travellers .
Go for it!

Good morning L C Jenson,
Thank you for getting in touch today.
I have spoken with the Tours Team, although the tour is 25 days, you do have long stopovers at 5 different sites, to enjoy the local attractions. If you are happy touring in France, this trip should suit. The journey back from Florence at the end of the tour is down to you, if you are happy planning your route back, we are sure this would a good choice.
We do have First Time Abroad Tours, but these are aimed at Members who have never driven abroad before, and we ease them in gently.
Our Travel Team would be delighted to assist with any other questions, please do give them a call on 01342 316101.
With kind regards.
Kimberley.

Just looked at the Italy Explorer Trip and saw the price - £2599 not including crossings etc - OUCH! Later this year we are spending less than that for 14 nights All Inclusive in a 5* hotel in Mexico.
We 'did' a tour of Europe May/June with a week at Ca Savio (for Venice) and stopped in France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and visited Belgium and Germany on the way for far far less than £2599. Unless you want the camaraderie, do your own thing and there is always someone to chat to on site.

We did a tour this year to Croatia and found it to be ideal for first timers, someone to do all the booking, organise tours and lots of outings/meals. Croatia is a long way and quite an adventure, so for first timers, nervous and excited this was a good option. At £1700 for 22 days I thought it reasonable value.
The Dutch guides were lovely people and made the trip for us.
Would I do a tour again? Probably not as I want to go to places that has no tour going there, the cost on many tours is very high and I can do it for a lot less.
The Dutch guides invited us to their next year tours into the Alps, at £3500, I declined.
