We think Southport has it all - it's perfect for beach stays, cycling holidays and with plenty of lovely walks in the area, it's ideal for dog owners, too. Not to mention sunsets like the one on this photo.

We had some great recommendations for the site and suggestions of things to do in the area in a recent discussion so to book our 'Site of the Week' please visit the site page here

We think Southport has it all

It does, if you like being pitched up in a car park! No views, just great if you like staring at other caravans/M/Hs!yell

What Nellie says. The old bit isn't too bad apart from if you turn left & get to the end & find you need to about face .... The new bit is all blasted gravel that won't hold a peg. It needs something planting  ..... anywhere .... just to break up the wide open aspect.

We have been every Christmas for 7 years I think. I shall hopefully be there for 15 nights this year. The new bit however is indeed like a desolate wilderness by comparison with no tree or shrub planting. There is an unplanted grass area as well which is I suppose and laughably is a nature area. Could easily have incorporated  balancing pond and tree planting in there as well as tree planting and shrubs around the site. Who ever designed it should go on to design supermarket car parks. I like the location and I am happy enough with the old part of the site. The new part could have started looking something like by now as the planting developed ..................... if there was anything to mature. I have stayed in the new area as we had a serviced pitch on one occasion when I was having mobility issues but when we were there and at the caravan it was mainly dark and not such an issue.

We stayed earlier in the year. Certainly a good base with trains and shops within walking distance. Walks straight from the site. Have to agree with nelliethehooker about no views, but it is sheltered, certainly on the original side. Completely agree with EasyT re the new area barren apart from the 'nature' area. Added to which the entrance on foot to the facilities block being ill thought through and a new path created between service pitches. That isn't suitable for anyone unable to walk on gravel 😢.

I think it's a good site with an excellent location. Providing a site has good facilities and hardstanding with good space between units I am usually perfectly happy. I am more concerned for its usefulness as a means to visiting the local area and on that criteria Southport scores very highly for me.

I agree with regards to location David and hence why we use the site annually. On the one time that we parked up on the new section mid December I swear that you could see the tumbleweed blowing across the barren area! laughing

Don't think that I would recommend for a beach stay though Rowena.

Never been to the club site at Southport but like ET we are booked in for 17 nights over the Xmas/New Year Holiday and quite looking forward to it - the £494.50 site fees + food and drinks is eye watering but worth it to see old friends - will complete a site report when we've sobered up after our stay.

I'm another who uses Southport on a regular basis. The old part is brilliant. The new part is wind swept and barren. Pitches needed some hardcore before the top layer of gravel, get fed-up constantly trying to get pegs to hold. (the use of 20mm limestone gravel on pitches is a problem on numerous sites. It's cheap, BUT!)
