I think the main point is that there are a myriad of rules, written and unwritten, which are relevant when large groups of people are together. And I guess we all fall foul of some of them, unwittingly, at times. The difference here is that some folk seem to be condoning willful breaking of rules which they don't consider sensible.

In which case, why bother with rules in the first place? undecided

If it is all but deserted I will also adjust my speed accordingly.

sorry but totally disgraceful. The rules don't apply to you? You can judge always when to apply the rules and not? You decide when to keep to  a speed limit and when you don't have to?

hardly likely to happen at 10mph though is it?

lets be honest here we are not talking people flying round at 80mph but probably at 10mph instead of 5mph as most sites are so tight its not possible to go any faster and with speed humps.  Yes the limit is there and no one wants to see anyone injured in any way but this whole thing is ridiculous and I suspect some of those moaning about the speed rule being broken are also some of those turning up on site before the 12 O'Clock (or 1) arrival time.

im sure he'll answer for himself, but i know DD to be an upstanding fellow....smile

im sure when crowded on site he adjusts his speed to 2mph and when its deserted to 5mph....smile

common sense and 'within the rules'....

    disgraceful!

Sorry to be pedantic but according to the news outlets I've seen this is still a maybe?

Motorway roadworks speed limit could be increased BBC News

Speed limits through roadworks may rise to 60mph Guardian

60mph roadwork speed limit considered to tackle motorway congestion Telegraph

Only the sun sates it will increase. Do you read the Sun?

Also the research only stated that there were benefits to drivers (lower heart rate for example) and but it seems the main advantages are to reduce congestion and lessen the impact of roadworks. Also this will only be done on motorways, but the chief of Highways stated that for safety reasons, lower speeds are likely to be maintained in areas with narrow lanes, contraflows or where workers are close to the road.

I can't find anything that talks about how this will be safer for workers for indeed any saving of lives as suggested in bold above.

The speed limits through roadworks are not not being increased  nation wide only in certain types of work and also not 24/7 even then

That's only part of the latter day saying!

The next bit reads, ''troubles occur when fools consider themselves wise men and when wise men act as fools!''

The rule makes sense and the wise, the considerate and the sensible readily stick with it!

Some just don't think it applies to them.

Surprisingly most don't seem to have a problem keeping to the speed limit in roadworks, because of course they are enforced.

Thanks for that Mickey. As somebody who travels around site at 4mph out of consideration for others I agree with your reply

also you have to consider what happened to Dogsbody after he said that famous saying.

Yes I know he went on to greater fame but: a) would have he been achieved even greater stuff if the 'accident' hadn't robbed him of those years out of the service and the contribution he could have made to tactics, or b) did the accident make him a better pilot due to his bad experience (Judgement comes with experience, experience comes from bad judgements) and c) was he a better fighter pilot as he could withstand greater g forces due to less legs and therefore out turn his enemies .

(many happy beer fuelled hours in the mess were taken up with such discussions)

These speeders are probably the same members who go to the facilities in pj's let their animal deficate where it likes, have big gobs and drink a lot late at night whilst sat in the awning yaking, they might also arrive at 11.00 at the start of their stay and hang about  till 15.00 on the day of leaving, oh and they have three or more kids that ride around on their bikes against the flow they are usually feral as well, could go on about the 20foot dog leads the non flushing of toilets and remember they are coming to a site near you enjoy your stay😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

Is it ? I have personally witnessed solo cars & MH's doing more that 10 MPH on some sites.

What has early arrivals got to do with it?
