Speeding Again

Oh, pardon me for breathing.
Get real, folks. You’ll find anything serious posted here isn’t going to reach those who need to hear it and most of us know that.

Possibly dislectic our DD

Stuck in a traffic jam on the A1 and all the vehicles around me managed to do it, for several miles at that! It may be a skill that some don't have these days mind as it can involve use of brake, clutch and feathered throttle. I wonder if some are trying to do it on cruise control? Nothing to do with modern cars, more to do with 'modern' people!

Depends what is meant by a problem! Could be noise, could be raised awareness required when trying to relax and chill out on and about site, could be heightened levels of concern if older or younger, could be just pedestrians sharing roads with vehicles and the conflict that offers, could be just the lack of awareness of fellow users for others. Problems raise their heads in many forms! All of these are worthy of a whinge if they cause a problem for some.

When I see somebody going a little too quickly (my opinion you understand) I think 'he/she is going a tad fast'.
When I see somebody obviously going far too quickly, given the required speed, I think either 'where's the fire' or 'what a selfish ant-social prat'

I suppose you could use the same analogy to justify breaking / pushing the limits, of all the rules, regulations and guidance that we all live and work with on a daily basis.
Of couse we only ever get to find out if anything untoward has occurred, when it is either serious enough to make the headlines, or happens to us. We never get to hear of the close calls, they either don't get reported or never make the headlines.
A couple of years ago at Edinburgh the OH fell over and cut herself and damaged clothing avoiding a MH traveling too fast. They did not stop, possibly did not even notice and she was not able to identify the culprit. We reported it to the wardens, who were very good. Even checking later to see she was OK. An entry was made in the accident book, so there is a record of the occurrence. However, It of couse did not make national news.
Others on the numerous speeding threads, that have been mentioned, have described incidents where accidents have been avoided because they were doing the speed limit.
So DD I would say your knowledge is flawed

Sadly there are a few who find it impossible to adhere to the rules they sign up to. A shame really as those rules are written with all of us in mind including the young, the infirm and all site road users. Once on site I would hope common sence and understanding prevails, we don't need an empty field for that surely!

That's strikes me as a rather ill-considered and stupid comment. Do you really believe that the risk of death or injury is "nothing worth whinging about."

+1. Also while nothing may have happened by speeding on site you are increasing the probability that something may happen (reaction times, not paying attention...) and increase the probability or injuries being more serious.
It is so simple 5mph stick to it.

It's interesting that you should take that point of view David - so presumably you're of the opinion that one is at less physical danger from someone speeding on site than from, say, dog excrement which has been carefully cleaned up by the responsible dog owner?
Some rules are made to be broken, I assume?

Like [Deleted User User] I believe that (in most circumstances) there is little danger. However for me that is irrelevant. I do not obey rules 'because they are rules'. In this circumstance however I consider it plain good manners to drive slowly.
There have been two occasions in the last 10 years where, had I been driving quickly, it is very likely that a young child on cycle would have been injured. Hopefully those that (in my view) drive too quickly would have slowed down at these points? One was on a tight bend with little forward visibility due to a tall hedge on drivers side. The other was adjacent to the end of a toilet block area where the child emerged at speed from a gap where a path came through hedging and almost straight onto the track.

Taken in the context of this thread. The 5 mph rule is there to be ignored, and those who obey it are lazy. Or is it those that set it are lazy, in that it is rarely inforced.
Very open to interpretation.
Some quotes should just be consigned to the dustbin of history.
