Speeding Again
Sorry to bring this up again.
I've just spent 5 nights at Cirencester Park and experienced speeding like never before. It's been on here many times about this rule. I've now come to the conclusion that it will never be dealt with. There were several comments in the visitors book about the same but the final comment which was answered by the warden from a member who was requesting more speed humps. The wardens reply was, we hope members will come to realise this error and hopefully it will be corrected. This is never going to happen. The site was full and unfortunately our pitch wasn't a good one in as much as it carried all traffic coming in and out. I am not exagerrating when I say I could count on one hand the number of cars abiding to the speed limit. If you were on the site I hope you were one of them. This next one was a disgrace. A father driving past solo with his you son on his knee steering the car. I was gobsmaked. HQ know of these problems and choose not to take things further.
Can I suggest they carry out randon excercises with speed guns which will display the speed to show to the driver. Also anyone being reprimanded for speeding should be made to leave their car off site. On one site we visited some years ago the wardens wrote the Reg No. of cars who were over the limit on a blackborad outside the office.
I did leave a comment in the book with name and Mem No. just for whoever it concerns. We will see.

We stay at Cirencester frequently and agree it does seem to be a bit of a problem. Perhaps the design of the site, who knows. Very often on leaving, at 5mph, you end up with a vehicle coming up quickly behind.😖
Just about the only place the limit is observed is on the entrance road, due to the number of pot holes. ☹️👎 Unless of course they have fixed them.

The CMC and the C&CC have rules about speeding on site. If any customers don't follow those rules, the Warden or Holiday site manager has the right to put the offender off the site.
That's the only way to stop this menace. Speed bumps don't work as people speed up in between the bumps.
I've seen C&CC Holiday site managers pull people up for speeding, but I've never seen a CMC warden do likewise, even when the speeding is quite blatant---.Are they scared of confronting rule breakers.?-- surely not,--- its part of their job.

We also saw this at Cirencester, worst time was Friday just after 12, no doubt a race to find that "best pitch".
This September we used several CMC sites and on virtually all of them the 5mph was being ignored.
Worst was Tewkesbury, closely followed by York Beechwood.

The newspaper headline "Small earthquake in Chile, not many dead" was once voted the most boring story of the year, but "Car does 10 mph on caravan site, no one hurt" might beat it.

Maybe its just best left to carry on then until someone gets hurt or killed and then do something about it ?

The only way that the Club can tackle this perceived problem is to install more speed bumps but these are an even bigger danger to people on bikes and very inconvenient for those that use mobility scooters and not least of all they introduce even more noise to the environment as caravans and motorhomes bump over them. Quite frankly I don't want to be on sites where the wardens are going round with speed guns, hardly my idea of a relaxed few days away.

I book sites in Dec, but end up not using them because I remember the yobish behaviour of members... it's the minority i hear shouted but in reality it is not, roll on December dates are ready mouse in hand.

I agree that some caravans seem to leave the ground as they go over the ramps .... they don't half land with a thump & crash of stuff inside. I watch as each of my caravan's axle is pulled slowly over each ramp though.
I do feel that the CC could use a slightly less severe speed ramp 😞

Wouldn't they be open to being sued for damage to the underside of vehicles if they weren't?
Would an increased limit to say 10m.p.h see more members likely to stick to it? The risks cannot me much greater for such a small increase in speed?

Tut Tut, peedee. I'm sure you'll be well aware that kinetic energy is proportional to the square of the velocity - double the speed and quadruple the energy!
On a serious note, I think the speed limit should be 'walking speed' - easy to assess compliance and easier than watching a speedometer when driving around the site.

Brisk walking pace IS 4 / 5 mph

This was happening on Poolsbrook C.P. site as well even with the c,van coupled up ( new arrivals racing round to get to ' the best pitch '
And to top it off not abiding to traffic flow arrows painted on the road

Might have been discussed before, but do any of you check your speed on your satnav against your cars speedo? Recently on site I managed to glance at both almost simultaneously, according to the speedo I was doing 5 mph, but the much more accurate satnav was showing 8.2 mph.
Not sure I should post this as I might get banned😜

Just what good do you think a 'responsible opinion' stated here will do, Indoors?
The time and place to deal with such issues is on site when it happens with the matter being reported to the club if the warden fails to act.
Well done, you managed to moan about speeding, dogs and other posters all in one sentence.

Speeding is endemic on all sites for sum reason. It does seem to be a waste of money erecting speed limit signs as very few obey them.
Part of the problem is site design as alluded to in an earlier post, sites with long perimeter roads encourage speeding whilst the herringbone layout has the opposite effect and is to be preferred.
Perhaps it should be mandatory to have a pedestrian walk in front of vehicles moving on site, possibly equipped with a red flag.

Just to reply to those that think my post is somewhat futile.
This problem is the subject of constant complaint (discussion) on here so is a worry to many members. I had seen it first hand over the last 5 days and it was so rife that I thought it worthy of more discussion. As for providing evidence of excess speed rather than estimate, most people are agreed on 5MPH being that of a brisk walking pace, also just mentioned earlier by “Pathfinder’s” comment. Well it doesn’t take much estimating to know that if you have to step out of the way of a car coming from behind you and watch it disappear into the distance then that car if well over the limit and that image is constant in most people’s minds when talking about others driving too fast. It was never suggested that an accusation would end up in court because no one without authority has the wherewithal to carry it out but an appropriate authority can take its own action. Perhaps the use of the word “gun” was to aggressive for some so please substitute that with, speed monitoring equipment. There is a big difference. Also I never mentioned the wardens taking on this responsibility, if you read my wording I was suggesting that type of method after the comment about HQ not seeming to be doing anything. They are the ones that should carry out random checks if they want to get evidence of the problem. At least by showing some concern by doing rather than talking would go a long way to appease members. As for accident statistics, I only know of one and unfortunately that was a fatality on a club site at York when a child and car collided. You don’t need any more than one for action to be taken but was it. Speed is still prevalent without further action hence my suggestion and thoughts. Will it happen again let’s hope not.
As for the comment from MM on a small child driving (steering) the car whilst on his dad’s knee. Perhaps it does happen in open spaces as a cause of excitement but for god’s sake not on a caravan park where children play without warning. Dad brakes, no seatbelt, head against windscreen with the result of an unpredictable injury.
David Klyne as I have just mentioned I never mentioned speed guns or speed humps for that matter. Speed guns may not be your way of relaxing on site but I can assure everyone sitting outside my caravan with speeding vehicles is not my way of relaxing either.
So to sum up in answer to a question put to me in DorestDrivers post. I didn’t mention it to a warden other than my comment in the visitor’s book as the problem is nationwide and needs the action of the club. I will be writing to them in the morning.

As Dad would have been doing 5mph and giving as much due care & attention (if not more) to the road ahead as he would have been doing without the child 'driving', there wouldn't have been a head vs screen situation. You're being way too melodramatic.
