Caravan tour / sites northern Portugal

We - 2 adults - are looking at a tour of northern Spain and northern Portugal in our caravan for next summer (July / August). Any advice or suggestions? We are taking the ferry to Santander and whilst e are fairly familiar with northern Spain, what there is in terms of sites and facilities in Portugal is a blank to us so knowing of your experiences would be great.

 Many thanks.

When I last toured northern Portugal I used the sites belonging to the Orbitur chain. You can check them out >here<

Thanks. Looks like a good starting point. Would also like to know of any 'Independents' that might be good. Cheers.

The only independent I have stayed on north of Lisbon which I can recommend is >Camping Coimbra< I have also stayed at Camping Vagueira near Aveiro a couple of times. The first visit was fine but on the second visit we found much of the site had been given over to statics and the remaining touring pitches were of poor quality.

Camping Lisbon is reputed to be ok but I have not stayed there.

We stayed at a couple of sites in Portugal last year, the first one was a Municipal at Tomar, decent enough, busy but pitches are of a good size and facilities were clean. Very handy site for visiting the town which is a must IMO. The second site we should have stayed on was close to Porto but having phoned them that morning to find out if they had a pitch, which they confirmed they did and took our details. We turned up to find the site full yell they offered us a scrappy bit of ground that was full of humps and bumps and no way suitable for a motorhome so we left. The next site not far away was or could have been OK but it was under very tall pine trees so very shady, the open pasture part of the site was not yet prepared for visitors (mid May) we only stayed 1 night. Not maybe a good experience for us and I would like to go back and try again sometime.
