New Mersey Crossing Toll.

The new bridge crossing the Mersey between Runcorn and Widnes is due to open very soon and so a route that was free will now be tolled both ways -  £2.00  Class 2 vehicle/caravan  , £6.00 for class 3 vehicles. This will could mean a £12 return toll for some MH. Perhaps the club could negotiate a similar deal we have for  the M6 toll.

We have just registered and get a 10% discount but you need to have a pre pay card. With the old jubilee bridge shutting then reopening also as a toll and the Mersey tunnel toll as well it was the lesser of the 3 evils apart from a detour on the M62 which would cost more in fuel. It would be nice if the club did something for us all up here.

Apparently if you happen to live in Halton you can qualify for a pass at an annual cost of £10 a year.

Just be thankful that you don't have to pay for the Severn bridges which are currently £6.70 for a car. The toll is going to be dropped at the end of next year, after we have paid for the entire cost of building and maintenance. Compare this to the new bridge in Scotland which is totally free of charge. The bridge/tunnel over the Thames is free of charge. Governments always throw public money at projects in the capital cities and deny the provinces of investment.

Which bridge / tunnel over the Thames do you mean. Because although the Dart Crossing looks free (no toll booths) you will get a penalty notice unless you pay for your crossing online.

The congestion charge in the capital also the low emmisions zone are more than a charge to use the very old bridges over the Thames and the Dart Crossing is also a toll crossing both ways

If you live in Halton it is free to cross but you have to pay a one off registration fee of £5.....as does everyone else who registers but they then have to pay to cross, it would be Interesting to know how much they make on the registration fee alone.undecided

'phishing', A new bridge has been built across the Mersey, do you think chocolate buttons paid for it, as someone out of town I will use it if necessary as I will with any toll to make life easier for me. Of course there is always the long way around, or public transport.

Tolls are a fact of life if you want to cross the Tamar. We've been paying on the bridge since 1961 and on the ferries long before that. Somebody has to pay for these structures and they are of enormous benefit. Like most things in life, if we use it for convenience, we should pay for the privilege.

I stand corrected about the Dart crossing. However the unfairness of the £6.70 Severn Bridge toll remains a fact. Meanwhile our Scottish relatives get away Scot Free!

A decision was made by the Scottish Parliament some years ago to abolish all bridge tolls. Perhaps you should lobby the Welsh Assembly and/or the UK Government.

Now Runcorn lay over on one side of stream, and Widnes on't other side stood. And as nobody wanted to go to either, Well the trade wasn't any too good.

One ev'ning to Ted, the boatmans surprise, three customers came into view. A mister and missus Ramsbottom it were, and Albert, their little son too.

Ow much said Mr Ramsbottom? and Ted said It's tuppence per person per trip.

The Severn tolls are due to finish, something to do with the French ownership changing.

I honestly thought that the huge fuel duty and VED that we pay sort of implied that we got reasonable infrastructure in return.

The Runcorn bridge was free. They built an additional bridge and levied tolls on both bridges to stop us using the old bridge for free. Immoral.

There are NO routes south out of Liverpool that are free.

The Mersey tunnels cost £37m to build, they now take £37M per year, should they not be free by now. I think they were supposed to free once paid for, 30 years ago.

    Boycott the bridge.

Unfortunately boycotting is not an option for many who work within the bridge areas.....unless you go miles out of your way to do so thus costing far more in fuel. It is a bad state of affairs.frown

Halton residents (who qualify, based on council tax band) indeed cross free when paying a £10 Annual fee. It's £5 one off for Blue badge holders,( as far as I know from anywhere            0

You can still end up with a penalty notice even if you do pay for your crossing online. See recent Rip off Britain programme.

The operators are still blaming "teething problems" 3 years or so down the line.

This is the same system coming to Mersyside.

I'd  think  twice  ( and  a  few  more  times  as  well  !! )  about  that  undecided

If  anybody  puts  such  thoughts  in  a  southern  politician's  mind  they'll  almost  certainly  get  it  wrong  and  apply  tolls  to  ALL  BRIDGES  !!

But do we? Scotland has its own Parliament and makes its own laws on certain issues. What happens in one country of the UK is not necessarily replicated in all the other countries. It's life.

Indeed. Even things like the drink drive limit are different 80 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of blood in England / Wales, only 50 in Scotland. So any wild campers need to be very careful indeed.

And if you're unfortunate enough to be ill on holiday, make sure you're in Wales where prescriptions are free.

The other Club reported in their December magazine that after lobbying the bridge operators all motorhomes category N1 or M1 on the V5C would be reclassified Class 2, the same rate as a car or light van.

I've spent the day arguing with Merseyflow after sending them a copy of my V5C but they will not reclassify it. Watch this space.
