Microwave for a Swift challenger sport
Hi, does anyone have any ideas as to where we can buy a decent priced microwave replacement for our Swift challenger sport 2014 caravan.
It is a model 6400XM Cata microwave
Not happy that it has gone wrong after not using it very much and 2 months after the warranty ran out.
Many thanks.

There were microwaves for £30 in Sainsbury recently.
Also Lidl/Aldi have them regularly, and I suppose Tesco, Morrisons, whatever do also. Even eBay!

Surely it is just a case of finding one which fits the physical space available ....and has appearance/features which suit you?
The big supermarkets usually have plenty of basic small microwaves around £50 (or less).

We replaced ours with a Panasonic from curry's.
Just picket the lightest one that gave the same options as the original. It has been going for 2 years now, Just given it the kiss of death there.

Going slightly off topic but it does have reference to the OP , we have friends , a young couple who are just buying their first caravan .
They have asked us to help / advise where we can , apparently the dealer in question who is supplying the caravan as told them to buy only caravan specific electrical items .
They were about to buy a combined 12v/240v TV for £400 until we informed them normal 240v appliances work in a caravan on EHU that would include normal microwaves too.
Could it be dealers aren't being completely honest with new beginners & trying to increase their margins.
Just a thought .

I think most warranties rely on the item being used in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. For most microwaves, including our caravan one, they state minimum clearance. Although there are various vents built into the housing, there is no way it comes close to their minimum requirements. We only ever use it for a few minutes at a time, there is no way I would want to use it for longer, it just is not adequately ventilated.
Of course I am sure Bailey will have checked with the manufacture that the microwave housing is suitable. 🤔🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖👎

I think that was the general idea , they just got themselves a normal 240v TV , because they intend to use EHU sites 100%.

Caravan manufacturers use bog standard microwaves so just find one that fits that you can afford. They are supposed to have space around to allow heat to dissipate but you will still find they may cut out during lengthy cooking due to overheating.
Dont buy Caravan specific items if you can avoid it. For example, you can buy low power kettles anywhere very reasonably but buy from a Caravan dealer and you will pay twice as much. You will pay through the nose for a 12 Volt TV but most people will only use one on mains hook-up.

Shouldn't you replace a 'built-in' microwave with another which is meant to be built in, not one which is intended to be free-standing?
B and Q sell Cata microwaves, starting at £97 which are intended to build in to units. Perhaps it's worth having a look there to see if any are a suitable size. Or there are new and second hand 'built in' Cata microwaves on ebay, starting at £40.0o.

We have a Daewoo in our Motorhome and we also had the same make in our Caravan. Similar model about £60. Not sure whether some are designed as built-in but it looks fairly standard to me. It did trip out on overheat once when we used it but it reset itself in a few minutes. There isn’t much space around it.

Thanks for the tip on Cata, i will have a look next time in B&Q.
The difficulty with most microwaves is the venting being nowhere near the vents in the built in cupboards. To overcome this, I installed a couple of 12v fans from maplins linked to an on/off switch. One fan to clear heated air from the oven housing, the other to expell hot wet air from the adjacent cupboard. Keeps everything free from damp exhaust from the microwave, especially from jacket potatoes.
