We used to holiday in Spain during the Easter holidays, and whilst we were OK because we were there a week or so before Easter itself, over the Easter weekend sites were invariably full.  Spanish families turn up in droves on the first evening of the bank holiday, and stay until late on the last day before heading home.  So I would say if you're arriving over the actual bank holiday dates then Yes, but if you're already on site before the holiday starts and intend to stay longer, then probably not.

Thank you for your advise, our plan is to stop at Caravanning Oyambre site for 2nights which is only 35k from port, then use the north coast route to Portugal. We are lucky to have 3 months off so want to head down to the Algarve then back through Spain and France then home via Cherbourg. Any recommendations of things to do or sites to stay on in Portugal and Spain would be very welcome.

To make sure why not book your site for those first few days.  Last week the Spanish had a holiday on 12 Oct, as this was a Thursday most people seem to have taken the Friday off to make a long weekend.  We were at Caceras on the 12th and the site was almost full.  However, the next night we were at Salamanca and the site was almost empty!  You may need to book for the Jul/Aug part of your trip.  Look at ACSI for off peak savings (membership runs Jan - Dec).

    Hi

The only holiday in Spain in May is actually May day on the 1st other then that there is no other (Bank) holidays  in May, although each region has its own days off for different Saint days but usually there isnt that many at that time of year. Spain is the complete opposite of the Uk and at that time of year May/June/July there is no need to book any sites, in fact this year we stopped at a site near Benidorm and there was only five outfits on site for the weekend in July and on the Monday we were by ourselfs the Spanish wont pay the price. Some sites do get busy in August when Madrid have their holidays but usually the only time you need to book is when the Brits are here Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb.

Turiscampo on the Algarve is my only recommendation for a site in Portugal because it is the best.
