Pump King
Could someone explain as to why the 'Pump King' thread has disappeared without explanation? It was put into a hidden folder, the live links were altered to delete all trace to the original site and members offers as if it never existed and all that is now on offer is a 'Right Shell' card. This is only valid on UK motorways whereas the 'Pump King' card covered any UK station with its offer.
Could the PK card with better benefits have been posted inadvertantly, and not meant for members but for HQ staff and the lesser RS card being offered just for us?
Not in hope for a reply but politeness costs nothing.

What? I'm shocked!
Surely the club hasn't withdrawn an offer and replaced it with a lesser one without a single word of explanation?
Come on CAMC and get your act together!
Funnily enough, I was asked today in a Shell station if I had a PK card when I filled the MH.

Perhaps the PK card is going to be the CC's big new announcement at the Caravan Show on the last day!!

Good thought, Nellie!
The new offer only applies on Shell m/way services and 8p per litre will still mean it's dear, plus the card costs £3 p/a.
It's not a lot of use to those of us who live many miles from a m/way either.

An explanation is the least we should get, Dave. It's quite rude to snub us in this way.
1 -
I think the best you are likely to get will be to the effect that if you don't like it you don't have to be a member.

Don't hold your breath guys. All we are likely to get from this lot is a curt CONTENT REMOVED, Going on past experiences

I got an email from Shell saying:
The card is currently going through an upgrade and is not yet for general use
They also asked how I had heard about the card?

The coming soon flash, and lack of much other detail, on the page 22 advert in the mag, does tend to suggest someone might have jumped the gun. Therefore, I suspect any explanation on CT before any further public announcement, unlikely.
As not many use CT 😱 no real harm done.

well i signed up for Pump King using the CAMHC link, eveything went through ok, just waiting for my card and pin to arrive by post, but interesting to see if it works, at 5 pence off per litre at any Shell garage in Europe it has to be worth a punt.

Hi everyone,
As it stands the offer with Pump-King is not available and as such the Pump-King discussion has been removed to avoid confusion and I apologise for the confusion already caused. If you have applied for the card, Pump-King and/or the Club will contact you directly in due course.
We are delighted to inform you that we have however launched an offer with The Right Fuelcard Company.
The Right Fuelcard Company Card costs £3 a year and entitles you to an 8p per litre saving from the pump price on every litre of standard Diesel, purchased at all 53 of Shell's UK motorway sites.
We acknowledge motorway sites have a higher pump price than non motorway sites however now you have the option to get cheaper fuel without having to divert off the motorway (which could come in handy if you are ever running low). Additionally, all of Shell’s motorway sites have wide lanes and high canopies which are ideal for caravans and motorhomes.
If this is of interest please visit The Right Fuelcard Company member offer webpage for full details.
To see the full range of offers available please visit the member offers webpage.
Many thanks everyone.

most unsatisfactory, you dangle the carrot, and after we have taken a bite because we think it is a great deal you take it away and offer something that is less than useless unless you do a lot of motorway driving in areas where there are Shell service stations. Not happy

That's a very poor show, Rowena, and no way to treat members.

Oh !!!!, Rowena, and i should say they have already taken £2 from my account , and i have an email from them saying welcome to Pump King, really this is in very bad form
Congratulations & Welcome to Pump-King

Hi Rufs, Someone will be in touch with you directly to discuss and I am so sorry for the disappointment caused. I will certainly be feeding back everyone's comments to the relevant team as this seems like an offer which would be popular with members.

Thanks [Deleted User User], i see where you are coming from, to be quite honest the money i would save is not huge, it is the principal, CAMHC launch a full page add in the club magazine, provide a link to the Pump_King site and a CAMHC code for you to use, which i did, Pump-King take my £2 for set up costs, which is refundable once you make your first purchase of diesel, and then CAMHC pull the plug. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth

I wonder if someone could present on CT a list of where these Motorway Shell stations are so that an informed decision can be made about whether they were ever likely to be visited. Remember that there is only one motorway north of Stirling and none north of Perth.
As to sites having wide lanes and high canopies, I find that on every site I use as my Land Rover naturally heads for the HGV section.

And no motorway west of Exeter either.
This really is a shambles.

A further though occured to me. Are the included Shell stations solely those that are on designated motorway service areas i.e. accessed through dedicated slip roads from and to the motorway?
There are many other places signed as "Services" which are located on the non-motorway road network and are accessed by leaving the motorway at a normal junction. In at least one case one has to leave at one junction and rejoin the motorway at the next junction! So no different from visiting any other fuel station.

It's obviously been a staff perk that was wrongly advertised in the magazine. Shell have offered the RS card for members in the full knowledge that few of us fill up at services anyway so no great financial loss.
I understand this was the big announcement at the show. I'm not sure I agree that it's a big announcement - just another member offer that we can use if we choose to. I do think that if something is to be launched or announced to great fanfare then it should be as free of errors as possible.
Perhaps the marketing manager should consider whether big announcements are the way forward. They don't seem to be achieving a positive response (Facebook is interesting)

DD where did you find the link and the code? The advert in my mag. doesn’t show it.
Just because the cc don’t wish to proceed does it mean the rest of us can’t?
It seems from what I have read here Pump King will still sign us up or have I missed something else besides the code and link?

Ken, the link was posted by somebody on the original discussion which has now been pulled by the powers that be, when you clicked on the link it opened up the Pump-King sign up web site and automatically inserted the code needed which I am pretty sure was CAMHC, the powers that be will probably kill me for giving that out, then you simply put in your visa card number, car registration etc and it opened your account. Sorry i do not have the link in my web browser history

Oh well missed another one but thanks for trying. Fuel prices on motorways are a National disgrace, even with an 8p reduction. I did read sometime ago that it was being investigated as was thought to be profiteering. Don’t know where that ended up.

KoK, it went something like this-
Govt-we think you are profiteering
Fuel companys-no we're not
Govt-oh ok then
The passing of a large cheque from the fuel companys to the HMRC was witnessed

This is the text of the email that I received from the club re this debacle:
"We understand you have recently signed up to the Pump-King fuel card.
Unfortunately, this offer is not available and the webpages should not have been accessible; this was caused by a digital indexing problem which has now been rectified.
There is no timeline for this offer at the moment. The Caravan and Motorhome Club have the member’s best interests at heart and want to ensure all member offers are robust.
Pump-King will be refunding the £2 card charge.
We apologies for the inconvenience and confusion caused.
Kind Regards,
Laura

This is my response:
"LauraThank you for letting me know.
This does not reflect positively on the caravan club or the robustness of the web site, which has been heavily criticised since the revamp many months ago.
What will Pump King do with the card details that I have provided them with?
If you have no relationship with them how can the club ensure that my details are not used fraudulently?
Thanks
Simon
I think that "digital indexing" is a euphemism for making a web page go live in error!
The deal re motorway services is much less advantageous than the fuel king one.
