Technology in cars is fine to make them more reliable , other is iffy but is one of the reasons insurance premiums keep going up because even a minor bump costs a fortune to repair because the tech that is around the exteriors(most vunarable) parts of some modern vehicles

Think we're having the calm before the storm here! It brightened up this morning so we decided to drive to Newquay and walk along Fistral Beach and around the headland. Normally it's quietening down at this time of year bugt there was obviously a special event on today and the place was heaving, even more than when we were there in summer. Anyway, we managed to park near the southern end of the beach and walked along thinking what a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. Unfortunately when we got to the other end of the beach the main car park was pretty full. As we walked across, minding our own business some guy in a huge Mercedes something-or-other class, clearly peeved at not being able to find a double space in which to park his tank came whizzing round the corner and missed Harry by a hairs breadth. When he decided to drive straight on I suggested, quite calmly I thought, he should be, shall we say, be a touch more circumspect in ploughing through the crowds. I just got a "V" sign and a mouthful of abuse - at least his wife had the good grace to look apologetic! Took a bit of a shine off the morning really!

Well done Millie for doing a big "catch up"
My sister and husband were at the Degas exhibition last week too! Thanks for your kind words.
JVB our new electric car cost £100 less to insure than our previous small Citroen....no engine in it to go wrong...
Moulesy, I feel for you over the foul mouthed response to your comments (usually means someone is in the wrong.) I keep wondering how this storm is going to pan out, our visitors are on the way and I'm wondering if they'll be hanging on to the walls! Just when we needed some nice weather to show them round are we going to be viewing fallen trees?
Must get on. final tidy up in progress.

Brue i am talking about the sensors/park assist modules that are now fitted behind the plastic "bumpers"of some cars that now cost a fortune to replace as it seems the whole lot have to be replaced where in the past it was just the plastic bits,
info from one of our neighbours who is in the "trade"

There was a time when bumpers did what they said. Now we have disposable 'crumple zones'.

Bakers2, dog was a bit lame at home, kept him on a lead to stop him racing about on the beach, he's been much better today, but only gentle walking, no ball chasing.

Visited Porthtowan and Portreath today, lovely beaches, watched all the surfers out on the water. Walked some of the coastal path but not as far as usual as the dog is still on light exercise only. Stopped at St.Agnes on the way back. Weather great until we got back to the site, cloudy and some drizzle.
Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Houghton Mill Millie.

I'll try, but I've only just got used to cruise control from the last car and now it's adaptive cruise control.

Sorry to hear that the dog's having some problems with his leg, H&T. Hope that it's just a strain and that it soon gets better.
Moulesy, some people have no manners. Glad that Harry was uninjured. When out walking the other morning Flyte & I came across a guy with a Golden Lab, which took exception to Flyte and harassed him quite viciously. He eventually ran off and the guy just ignored the whole event with out a word of apology!!
Glad that you had a good time away Millie. We head on to Weymouth tomorrow and I just hope that we get there before the winds get too high.

I agree. I find that some people have no manners and are very rude. I am glad Harry is OK moulesy. It must have given you a fright. When we fetched our grandsons from school recently a stupid little man (and I mean little, he was only about 5'3"!!) left his very large range rover right on a corner half on the pavement so people couldn't use the pavement and had go walk out in the road with young children and others couldn't see to drive round the corner. A PCSO who was on duty to try to 'educate' some parents how to park near a school went to have a quiet word with him and give him a warning and he was extremely rude to her. He couldn't see he had done anything wrong.😠

I'd think about upgrading your policy then Malcolm. We have the top level which covers us for any car, can't just recall what it cost, but it would certainly have repaid for itself at £108 a pop! Give them a ring and see what they say.

Well, the strong winds have arrived and still more to come! But they've also brought glorious blue skies and, wow, what a warm morning! Just walked over Penhale Dunes to the lost church and it took almost twice as long coming back as going, fighting the wind. I think there's going to be some spectacular waves down on the coast today - will be interesting to see if it deters the surfers!

Not too bad in Cheshire at present, occasional rain flurry, no excessive wind as yet, but 'orrid grey sky too warm for this time of year -- we will suffer for this believe me (
).
Saw some of those funny 'surfers with hang - glider / parascender things when I was up Kintyre this Spring, every time there was a decent breeze out they went charging down to the beach, doubt if much can deter them, M
!!
Hope everybody is hunkered down warm ( ! ) and dry 'til it passes.

Don't remind me of such things please, JVB66 -- I'm in the Surgery tomorrow for the 6-monthly Diabetes check results & the ensuing rollocking !! Thats assuming Nursey-poo does not leave that to the Doctor who I'm due to see on Friday
.
I moan & mutter but the N H S is keeping a good look out for me at least !

We have just added my car to our Mayday Red Pennant insurance. It only cost us £10 pro rata until we renew in March so I would think about £20/£25 annually. Always worth giving them a ring. It is good to talk

It has been a beautiful sunny morning here but the wind is getting up now and the light is very strange. Our son in N Ireland has just contacted me to say that all the schools over there are closed and he is heading home from work. He has a 45mile drive from Belfast to the coast. I will be glad to hear that they are all safe.

I made the mistake of not keeping the Smart car breakdown cover UK telephone number in the car. I've rectified that by keeping the Smart car handbook in the car. If I had had it to hand when the puncture happened I would have got free assistance as it is 24 hour breakdown cover.

Strange sun over Derbyshire which has been caused by Sahara sand being blown in by Ophelia, almost ghostly!!
Photo taken at 1pm, would you believe

We had the same here Yertiz, we were showing visitors round locally, the sky had gone a strange yellow colour and we looked up to see the red sun. We've had some very strong gusts of winds, no rain, very odd warm weather on the tail end of the storm.
