Chatsworth Chains

I’ve been following this discussion for days as we love the Chatsworth site – mainly for its location. It is a busy site and though trying every year for a week’s holiday there we’ve only managed 2 long weekends in the last 6 years. We’ve been going there since the year the site opened and there was never any queueing until the last twice we’ve been. We always arrive at least an hour after the set arrival time and have always just driven straight along the road, over the bridge and into the new arrivals area next to the reception. There was never a problem, that is until 2 years ago when we had to queue. That’s still not a problem to us, we’ll wait. However it must be to camper vans wanting to pop off site and perhaps even to people driving back on to site after a trip out. It was a problem to our daughter driving on site in a very small car, when the warden wanted her to sit and wait in the caravan queue!! We don’t arrive at any site early, we stick to the rules and I’m regularly on CT so read all the early arrival gripes. Perhaps the problem is that so many sites let members on early, some very early, more than an hour before 12 or 1pm. We seen this at Sandringham, Incleboro Fields and Troutbeck this year. I can understand why the wardens will allow it, as it saves them having a queue to book in. Common sense in a way, but it must give those members that get in early the feeling that it’s fine to do so. Then they’ll do it again. Perhaps a reason for the sudden rush to get into Chatsworth to secure a decent pitch, is that so many of the pitches there are now all in shade. Some of the pitches are always damp. Why don’t the club try a booking system for Chatsworth where you book a specific pitch. Then there would be no need to rush around the 1pm mark, you’d get the pitch you booked at whatever time you arrived. If there were only poor pitches/shaded pitches available when booking then you choose to go/not go. or the club could trim back or pollard some of the trees, as they do on some sites in France.

I doubt whether the Chatsworth Estate will want trees pollarded unless they think it's OK, the site is another leasehold site with limitations to what can be done. I don't think it's a particularly attractive site but the position is the draw. Hope the club can manage the situation or the estate might think they can do better!

I'm sure the club wouldn't lament the loss of the odd member or two with an attitude similar to your recent post , indeed any comments made by people who have never been to Chatsworth & don't fully understand the nature of the entrance & narrow lane down to the site are pretty much pointless .
God forbid if ambulances/ fire service needs emergency access around turn up time .

And as DK requested above, let’s keep this thread about Chatsworth

God forbid if ambulances/ fire service needs emergency access around turn up time
Doesnt bear thinking about, though if the lane was completely blocked, emergency vehicles could get as far as the other side of the wall via the grounds. Doesn’t help the other tenants along the lane though, should they need assistance. I’ve seen the queue stretch well beyond the farm on a Friday.

yes indeed. Put me down as well for being sent away if I was daft enough to try and arrive early. I know the arrival time, why should a mature and intelligent adult be given an arrival time, sign up to abide by the club rules and think to themselves 'well that doesn't apply' that is pretty childish isn't it? or same adult can't work out a route with leaving and arrival times (if they can't a good sat nav might help) or failing that notice they are going to arrive early pull over and wait somewhere.
That is being an adult!

Indeed I'm inclined to agree. It is pure arrogance or simply self centredness to think one is above the rules and arrival times for this site.
It is so childish, stamp foot a few times on the floor I want to be in warden there's a space

and to add that before this chain, there was a big sign saying words to the effect of... New arrivals, do not pass this point before 1pm
The chain being installed because members think this sign doesn’t apply to them <rolls eyes>

Don’t know. Probably not if as I suspect the chain has been installed to the left of the wee island at the start of the lane. If installed anywhere else it would restrict those leaving.

Why contribute to the thread then? The subject of this thread doesn’t apply to you?

Is the island not there to provide a turning place? My understanding is that the chain is at the start of the lane after the turning area and that it is put in place at about 12.30, by which time all those leaving will be gone.
Presumably any solo cars or MHs or residents can unhook the chain to exit or enter.

You may be correct. 4 nights booked for next week so I’ll see for myself.

Yep, we have seen them on several sites.
Not people who have requested a late stay as they are just 10-15 minutes late in leaving. Causes chaos where the entrance is narrow and several vans arrive for 12 noon.
Doubt you can request a late stay on sites like Chatsworth anyway.

The caravan being towed by the car is a bit of a giveaway though!
We had one trying to leave Lady Margarets Park 10 minutes late, he could not get out as there were 4 vans in the entrance waiting to check in.
We also met an outfit on the narrow road down to Trewethett at about 12.30. OH mentioned it to the warden who said it would be someone going out for the day, she was most surprised when OH pointed out the car was towing a caravan!
