Turiscampo Site, Espiche near Lagos, Algarve
My wife and I travelled to The Algarve, Portugal to the above site. Leaving on the 26th August 2014 we caught the Brittany Ferries ship "Pont Aven" to Santander in northern Spain - a 24 hour crossing, that was excellent. I had pre-selected a non toll route
through Spain (MIchelin maps) on the "Autovia's" - similar to our dual carriageways and truly good roads for towing. We only paid tolls from the Portugese border which cost the equivalent of £19 from the western to the eastern region of the Algarve one way
trip. When we first arrived at the site, we wondered if we had made an error, as it was full with many families and nationalities (predominantly Spanish). Once the Sunday of the weekend arrived, the site became a calmer, more relaxing place to be (only to
be expected at this time of the year, we suppose). The site is located on a hillside, just off the A22 and quite easy to locate on first arrival. Varying sized pitches are available and many screened with hedging and trees for some modicom of privacy. The
facilities on site are excellent; the shower blocks modern and very, very clean - considering the number of persons using the facilities. There is a large swimming pool and a toddlers pool, with ample loungers for chilling. There is an on-site restauarant
and bar overlooking the pools with a snack bar also, serving club sandwiches, salads, pizza etc. The restauarant represented tremendous value - a four course meal costing about £9 without the cost of drinks. Staff at the site could not have been freindlier
(although we did receive a matter of fact style greeting at reception, on arrival). The site is open all year around and many people use the site in the winter months for longer stays. Outside of school holidays, we believe it would be hard to beat the facilities
at this site in Portugal. The site is very close to Praia da Luz, Lagos, & Salema. It is also ideal if you want to travel and explore the pine and eucalyptus clad hills and superb beaches on the south west coast..they are gorgeous. All in all, returning
to the UK on the 16th September, left us wanting to go back for more! If we may help anyone with planning a route etc., just let us know.

Hi SO,
we are thinking along the same lines for next May/June to the same site. I had wondered about returning via west coast of Portugal.
Any additional information about the route you used south would be great as would info on campsite and surrounding area if you don't mind. Thanks.

I agree with all the positive comments on Turiscampo. We travelled "down Spain and up Portugal" two years ago and spent 11 nights there to chill. I could let you know the sites we used on the journey north from the Algarve RFC if you would like them. I can't guarantee they are the very best options but we had a great holiday. We used the Spanish motorways on the way down stopping at Segovia, Salamanca, Caceres and Seville, a few nights at each. Great memories. I did a blog at DownSpainupPortugal.

Well regarded site that we are hoping to visit before too long and have been provided with very useful info by Another David. There is a rally there over the winter but we are thinking about early April.
