DFDS Ferry

I've just been looking at the DFDS website to get an idea of ferry prices for next year, outward mid June and return early July. Going via Dunkirk was cheaper than via Calais but over lunch we decided that the cost difference compared with the fuel cost between Dunkirk and Calais were so similar that we may as well take the shorter crossing so I looked again at the DFDS site. I was amazed to find that in the space of two hours the prices seemed to have rocketed. What was £46.00 was now shown as £86 and what was £56.00 was now £179.00!!!!

I'm certain that all my criteria was entered correctly both times so, either there is a major fault with the website or, because I had already looked at the site , the second time it inflated the prices.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

    Always empty your cache and clear cookies when going back to check prices. wink

    Alternatively you can go 'incognito' if you use Chrome and it allegedly stops cookies being deposited. Cookies basically tell the web owner that you are interested and if you look twice you are really interested and may chance it with prices!

    In addition to tracking individuals computers via cookies, companies can purchase web site traffic metrics from various sources and any interest (or lack of) in a particular offer can be quickly adjusted up or down.

    Been done for years in the Aviation industry. Ryanair is good at it and it won't take the Caravan Club long to work it out, the C&CC have already worked it out. Sometimes called "Dynamic pricing" and it's not for your benefit. Also coming to a Tesco and Morrisons supermarket near you within a year or so.

    Set your alarm clock for shopping at 03.30 am and go grab a bargain, pay more at 3.30 pm.

    I tend to use different dates to the ones I actually want when I am searching flights, ferries etc. Obviously, similar price band (holidays, weekends etc.).
