New to Spain portugal

We are thinking of travelling to Spain and Portugal for the first time in 2018 probably around early may. We think we want to visit Seville Granada and Córdoba and then into Portugal. We have a 6m van conversion. My husband can walk a few miles on the flat  but not much more and not downhill! We have bikes but like to cycle at a sedate pace ideally on the level! We like to use local transport or possible hire a car?

Any ideas of good sites that fit the above criteria please? We generally like "proper sites" and are quite nervous of stories we have read re safety record route. We are also unsure of booking - do we need to in advance?

We like sun and site seeing but not tooo hot so hope we are picking the best time of year.

Any advice welcome.

As first timers, what you are proposing seems a bit too ambitious. We've gone all the way down through Spain to Portugal  many times in the past, but we set off in January on a 12 week expedition.

In May, Spain is pleasantly warm, but by June it starts go get hot and shade rather than sun is essential. To visit the big cities you need to be prepared to use public transport from rural sites into the centres.

Don't be discouraged, but you need to do a bit of research  on routes and campsites before you set off. There are sites with public transport links to Seville and Granada that we have used, but others with more recent experience may be be able to help.

We are going to Spain at the end of October for six weeks for the first time to visit the towns that you mention. We were planning to go Feb/Mar but after googling the average temperatures for these towns changed our minds but if you take a look at the May temperatures for each town you may be reassured.

I used https://www.eurocampings.co.uk/ for reviews on sites and the ACSI card would be useful for getting cheaper sites at that time of year.

I also used John's blog https://jondogoescaravanning.com/2015/10/06/welcome-to-my-blog/ for a wealth of information about the country.

If you scroll back through the various threads on here there is quite a few about Spain and getting there. I also read the threads on another caravanning forum as I was making our plans.

Just remember that for every horror story you hear about travelling abroad there are thousands doing it without incident.
