Why so many dogs and Inconsiderate owners??

cyberyacht I think the word obsessed is a strong word, you and many others might not like dogs and maybe you've never had one so are completely unaware of the joy they bring to many of us. We are entitled to our opinions and entitled to stand up for ourselves on these forums where we seem to continually get dissed for owning one. I like to think of myself as a responsible dog owner and if my dog barks for no reason it gets reprimanded. I personally don't like children riding around my unit, throwing balls etc etc etc but if I go on a club site I know to expect this, it's not that I don't like children full stop it's just that I work with them. In a nutshell what I am saying, as many others have, we don't all like the same things but have to respect others likes/dislikes.

You don’t have to explain the reasons for owning a dog and the pleasure they bring you. Dog owners already know this.
Those that don’t agree are unlikely to ever change their point of view so describing the pleasure dogs give, is lost on them.
Defending the dog owners corner whilst fending off opinions that are not aligned with your way of thinking is a pointless exercise, enjoy your dogs and let them complain and whatever you do, don’t take anti-dog rhetoric personally.

whilst its certain that the Club doesnt want to alienate the vast numbers of dog owning visitors, it surely has the same duty to non dog owners to be confident that numbers arent getting out of balance, and to demonstrate that it can record and manage this info?
i did own (and dearly love) a Springer for 12 years, so i can (to a degree) see the view from both camps.
recently, we've had a few comments on CT that suggest the number of dogs may be greater than the number of non owning members on site....this may or may not be true...
.if this were true, i would think (with a balanced view) that this were approacing a 'reasonable limit' on any site at any time...
however, this is all conjecture as the club doesnt record the number of dogs....whereas i feel it should....and i think there should be limits....on the site total and, possibly, per van......surely the number of dogs in any van have to be 'fully under control' by the owners?
still, i dont see the club moving a jot in this direction as the balance may already have tipped and restricting dogs will now 'upset' more members than it doesnt.
so, where does that leave the (now/imminent) minority?
probably voting with their wheels?
i guess it will (eventually) be dogs overrunning the sites that will move non dog folk away, rather than the old favourites of pegs, arrival times, departure times, prices, kids/balls, speeding on site etc, etc.
enforcing the short lead approach everywhere on site and the recording (and publishing) of dog numbers to show that, at the very least, the club and members are aware of the dog population and the concern of many members.

As you say WTG, the emotive language is far from helpful. I don't particularly like them, as pets, but always enjoy going to watch sheep dog trials. It is amazing what a well trained one can do. However, one handler explained, if one does not come up to scratch he will get rid of it, probably to an owner that just requires a well trained dog. So certainly no sentimentality. Too some that might seem an almost callous approach to ownership. However, in this case they are employed to do a job and if they can't do it, are of little use.

there is no way a site can have as many people as dogs? That means every single outfit has the same number of dogs as people, really? has anyone ever seen this? And then to have more dogs than people?
On the club sites I've been on there are always outfits without dogs and those with. I've never really taken noticed of the exact proportion of each as I don't really care. I have my pitch and what others do on theirs in entirely up to them providing it doesn't interfere with my stay. And that's the point really. When ever people are 'confined' in a space such as a campsite (or Sainbury's) there will be minor 'upsets' but personally I have to say that I've had just as many upsets from those with and those without dogs, and actually to think about it dogs and their owners have upset me the least (if at all). At least dogs don't speed.
99% of the time everyone gets along just fine

In general I would agree with your first statement CS. However, we stopped at Chapel Lane during Crufts and it came pretty close to one to one. I think we could have been the only van without.😀
One van had a specifically built trailer full.
That said, all the dogs on site seemed very well behaved and we heard little or no barking.

There's your answer CMC members with dogs ......that's how non dog members see us , we are just a blight on the club according to certain members , I believe this club knows different , they know the income that's comes from dog owning members.
We are to be avoided because who we are because we actually probably think more of our pets than some people .
As a dog owner I get angry when I see other dog owners leaving mess /waste its doesn't help matters & puts all dog owners in a bad light .
I take some posts / posters with a large pinch of salt , some are best totally ignored for what they are 💩

The caravan club aren't bothered about complaints regarding dogs. I have been on sites where dogs have become a nuisance. I went to the warden to ask for assistance and was told there was nothing they could do, report to head office.
Yes, because the caravan club see dog owners as a sauce of income and turn a blind eye to complaints dogs can leave a mess anywhere on site.
I feel I am no longer a member of the caravan club, more like the canine club.3 -

You are not really helping your case compass. " that's how non dog owning members see us"
That implies all members, and I think that is very far from the truth. I certainly just see you as another member.

I see this as an absolute and total failure of the club to have sites managed in accordance with their own rules.
If wardens haven't got the ability or courage to enforce the rules then there's no point having the rules at all. There are always going to be people who think they are above the rules and it's down to the club and its staff to sort it out
The club needs to get a grip. Putting out a guidance leaflet and doing nothing is the equivalent of putting your fingers in your ears and going 'la la la'.

I had a similar thing once at Melrose. Just by pure luck we had chosen a weekend when the regional bagpipe bands were having their annual competition in the private school opposite. I think every van had at least one person wearing a kilt (unluckily it wasn't windy so I couldn't find out if it was true about what they wore underneath - remember Carry on up the Khyber?)
It was an amazing day, they used the field adjacent to the site (and to our van) to practice.

+1 for me as well. I have children with me, you have a dog, you have a MH....
It's all the same

JayEss, what did you expect the warden to which Thewanderer directed his complaint, to actually do?
Unless a warden witnesses rule breaking for themselves, do you want them to take some kind of direct action on every tell-tale complaint they receive?
The wardens are not teachers within a primary school. If they do respond by having a quiet word with the perpetrator claiming they have received a complaint about a dog being a nuisance, they run the risk of becoming embroiled in a tit-for-tat series of follow up complaints.

What do I expect them to do?
Acknowledge complaints, look for a pattern, assess whether complaints are increasing generally or just from one person, increase monitoring of the site, speak to transgressors etc
I don't expect them to fob folk off by telling them to complain to head office.

You expect a lot. Other than expressing your dissatisfaction on this forum, which I suspect won’t get you anywhere, what else can you do to receive the level of service you expect?
Maybe you should take up your issues with Head Office?

What I have described is a level of customer service that is not unreasonable. What happened to that old chestnut of 'taking ownership of issues'?
If my two elderly dogs caused nuisance I'd expect the warden to come and have a word with me. I certainly wouldn't expect to be called after the event by some faceless member of staff in the contact centre.

I’m sure if you exercise your own mantra and take ownership of the issue you have, you’ll get a better response
You clearly have a problem with the Club not taking enough responsibility, declaring it should ‘get a grip’.
Make your complaint more formal, take ownership of it and convey your concerns directly to the top where there is a greater chance of being heard.

Sounds really good. Does he wear a kilt?
If I gave that impression then I'm sorry, I didn't mean that (and as everyone knows dogs are far more important) I just meant different people bring different 'livestock' with them to sites and I view them all as members and don't care what they have.

If that is the case, then good for you because I seriously doubt your strong grievances hidden deep in this thread, will result in HO management sending out a nationwide memo to all wardens, asking them to ‘do better’

Good, because warden bashing on an open forum isn’t going to make them want to serve the membership any better.

Nigel, did you get out of bed the wrong side this morning or have you been misreading posts again?
0 -
Nope, I’m carefully reading posts and responding, proof reading my own words before hitting the button.
Warden bashing gets on my nerves that’s all, I’ll defend their good work all day long.
In addition, the readership will be pleased to know I’ll be off the forum from this weekend for a few days, as I head to Manchester to cover the blue corner for the national press. Anyone like me to pass a message on to Mrs May?
