M5 Junc 28 to Honiton A373
I'm going from North Devon to the Putts Corner club site south of Honiton. The sites directory says not to tow along the A373 from the M5 but to go south to Exeter and then back along the A30. This route is in excees of 30 miles further. There are cl's along the road to Honiton which use the A373
Has anyone towed along the A373 and is there a reason for this instruction?

Sorry can't help with what it's like for towing. However, if you put the M5 junction to Honiton in Google maps it gives 11 miles and 22 mins by the A373 and 24 miles and 26 mins by the M5 / A30.
So only 4 minutes difference. Clearly not a particularly fast route with an average of only 30mph, not towing.

I was at Putts Corner last month. As I recall, and having just looked on google maps the road in question does get a bit narrow in places. I cant help with the rest of it though from the M5. I will add though It's not that bad and as I recall its all part of the bus routes down there and we saw many double deck buses in service on this road near the site.
The route in from the A30 is a nice run in though. Many years back you could exit the M5 at the services in Exeter, don't know if you still can ? there was a service road as I recall for local deliveries.

The A373 is hilly (think Devon hills!) in places but is used by locals with care, it is a shorter route than the M5 Exeter route. Don't attempt the google route via the Blackdowns, the shortest but steepest way to get there. Living near the area, we would probably use the Taunton/Ilminster/ A303/A30 but with a van in tow the A373 will hopefully be more straightforward.

I would not tow on that road between Cullompton and Honiton, the road is single file in some parts and if you meet a lorry which alot use it you will be stuffed.
follow the m5 to exeter and up the a30 to Honiton then follow the clubs directions

I think it makes sense.

I am going to Putts Corner 02/10/2017 from Weston-super-Mare and will be going down M5 to junction 29 and take A30 towards Honiton.
Has anybody had any experience of serviced pitches at Putts Corner and is there anything I should be aware of.
Kind Regards
Roy
