Visitors (slightly important) tomorrow, so I'm whizzing round with polish and duster. I also made a rather tasty looking fruit pie - but have now found out they won't be staying to dinner (aka lunch).

Not quite pointless, as we can still eat it instead of the usual yogurts.

Glad people are posting on this thread again. Not done too much today but we are going away in the MH for the weekend so got to get packed. Is that pointless lol :)

Ttda, we were passing a house overlooking Burnham Overy Staithe in Norfolk yesterday and got talking to the painters who were painting the brickwork with Barn Paint. They confirmed it was breathable but waterproof and proceeded to give us a 15 minute dissertation on the subject. Very interesting. It is sold under the name B-Deck apparently. Haven't looked it up yet but the CL owner that we stayed at in Holt a week ago was using the same stuff for his barns. Never seen it before.

Yes, that has done us for last thirty years as well. But we have had some frost damage to some of bricks down the years, some spalling in places. Company were touting for business, we saw what they had done to a neighbours house, which looked really good, and on the plus side, it counts towards the Energy Efficiency rating for the house at sale time, so we thought go for it! Has got us interested in some renovation inside and out again as well, so motivating as well!

Had a lovely afternoon in garden, cutting back plants for above work ( lots of clematis, Passion flowers, other plants close up to house), now off to see SIL to deliver some beads, we are doing stuff to sell combined with a Macmillan Fund Coffee and Cake afternoon!

BIL enjoyed his trip out to SWT Carlton Marsh.  We manage to spot a fair amount of wildlife. Hopefully this little outing will be the catalyst for further improvement in his conditions.

On supper duty this evening as Mrs One is out with her cub group.

Glad your BIL is out and about again OnePutt. Cancer can be so life changing, not just physically but confidence sapping mentally as well, so great if he is up for going out, doing something different.

Wherenext, Suffolk and Norfolk could be on cards for us after Xmas, but in cottages this time. We know North Norfolk quite well, but not Suffolk, so some very new places to visit!laughing

Thanks Millie but my BIL is the expert, his knowledge of bird calls is truly encyclopaedic.

TDA, Not only is he recovering from cancer he had a hip replacement about a month ago so life has dealt him a hard life.

WN the weather here is meant to improve for the next couple of weeks, enjoy Suffolk

Decided to walk from Blythburgh to Southwold tomorrow. Might have to call in for a reviving pint in Walberswick on the return leg. Good job I can drink Adnams. 😁

I caught up over lunch with a friend I hadn't seen for over a year. Then went to the Gardening Society this evening. It was a really good talk on Monastery and Cathedral gardens. All a bit pointless but very enjoyable 😊

Wifi here has apparently been upgraded to silver since the handbook was printed, so we are enjoying a decent connection still.

Site leaflet says mobile phones do not work here, so very surprised to find that our 3 dongle works fine!

Have booked a car park space to visit Greenway (NT) on Saturday, need some good weather now.

Also plan to visit Totnes, Dartmouth and possibly Brixham too.  On Friday we are meeting up with a friend for lunch, so a busy few days ahead.

Hope you enjoy Greenaway Kjnell, we haven't managed to get there yet. Totnes is an interesting place, some nice independent shops, and the town has its own currency, the Totnes Pound! Dartmouth of course is lovely. Hope the weather is kind.

We go down that way every couple of years KJ we were there a few weeks ago staying at Hillhead. Dartmouth is nice if you are looking for a nice meal try The Dolphin Inn it serves good food at a decent price nice beers too. Brixham is great lovely views and plenty to see. I am jealous we were there again in July and as always it was great. Enjoy

Although I've put this photo of the Water Vole on the wildlife section I thought I would post here as well, or is that pointless?  Taken at RSPB Strumpshaw last Tuesday:

If you're ever at the Moreton in Marsh site, parked up near the boundary stream you might catch a glimpse of one there. Lovely photo Oneputt. smile

Like Francis I'm a fan of the Hillhead/Dartmouth area hope you enjoy your days out Kj. We visit Greenway nearly every time we're down there, going via the ferry usually. It's a lovely house and garden with nice food too, cream teas are good!

Agree, Greenway is a lovely place.

We sat having a coffee when we arrived and this little fella was keen to join us for cake! There are a lot of very tame birds around, in fact, one Robin was feeding off someone's hand while we were there, fascinating to watch.

How does the Totnes Pound work TDA.  Do you have to change your currency when you get there?

It's rather interesting, a concept put into place to help support local spending and business in Totnes. A Totnes Pound is equal to £1 sterling, but is only valid currency in Totnes itself, and hopes to promote thinking about how residents and visitors spend their cash. Nothing sinister, underpinned by sterling bank reserves, but aims to make folks buy local, supporting local businesses and employment.

Link to some info, if it works: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totnes_pound

Totnes is the "Hebden Bridge" of Devon, if you have been to HB, you will know what I mean! Lovely shops, I don't think they have a big supermarket, very craft and farming based goods and services. Interesting castle as well, a shell keep, high on a hill!

I don't think you change currency, but if I recall correctly, you may be offered Totnes money in your change! Not compulsory to accept, but if you do, you spend it in another Totnes business!
