Yes bird mess is preferable to a grass pitch and yes I'd cancel before spending up to £30 per night on a squalid muddy patch of land that's not worth a tenner
My nose and my face
Personally I don't understand the love for grass pitches. After all nobody seems to choose to pitch on them. Grass pitches are usually the last ones to be picked

If the wardens are aware of the ground conditions, and they should be, and they know a MH is due then a HS pitch should be saved.
If the pitch is not suitable for a motorhome then it damn well is not suitable for me. Cancel one of us before we arrive. I have no fear of getting stuck but have no desire to stomp around on soft ground.

Perfectly well brue as I'm not paying £30 a night for a squalid pitch while everyone else is pitched on HS (whilst still moaning about how unsightly and car park like it all is )
Grass pitches on camp sites have a top whack value of £15 for me and even then the location of the site has to be perfect. At £30 a night I'm happy to avoid club sites when grass is in use (and I have done for years)

We're on a £30 grass pitch just now, as I've posted elsewhere and just like a festival there are no hard standings but the fee has been worth it because of the place. Nothing squalid JayEss, it's well maintained and has good draining.

Possibly I would occasionally pay a premium price for a pitch in a special place other times I pay less if I can. So far we have never got bogged down anywhere but have watched others attempt the impossible. We have seen pitches being spoilt at St Agnes which can be susceptible in poor weather, same can can happen on a rally field. How to get off or on can be a problem in bad weather.

The last CL were were on had fairly soft springy turf. With rain forecast for the day of our departure, I positioned the car a few feet in front of the caravan so that when I hooked up in the morning, the car had protected the ground and I had a relatively dry patch for the initial movement. When I left there was no wheelspin at all. It's just a case of being sensible and planning ahead a bit.

Extra Sensory Perception? It didn't have fancy gizmos like that.

Is the £1.4million fact DD, or speculation?. That is a lot of brass

Weather down in South Wales has been ahem, interesting these last few days. Lots and lots of rain. We erred on the side of caution last night and moved onto a HS pitch. There was some interesting awning taking down going on at around 2am by our closest neighbours. Not sure how much of the awning was left to rescue, they haven't emerged yet!

Lets hope the weather improves for you soon TDA.
I feel sorry for your neighbours but wonder why they waited so long to take it down. Maybe they thought it would withstand the weather.

I think I had better mention that there is "grass" and there is "not hard standing" and that they are not the same, as anyone who has been at New England Bay for example will remember.
Created by nature, the ground is very firm and quick draining. Rock pergs required indeed.

Yes, the weather in Wales this September has not been the best. It's raining hard now as I type this! We are coming home on Saturday and will move tomorrow to a pitch especially meant for leavers so as not to disturb others if you leave early which we do. The ground is sodden so the mover will come in handy to turn the van around with the tyres not moving quickly. My 4x4 should cope with the rest Here's hoping 🤞 .
