Heavens have just opened. Real heavy squall. Awaiting last of the three apple pies to finish in the oven. Froze the excess apples in a naked state 😶.

Still waiting to her that mum's had the phone call so this can be sorted! 3 plus hours 😲. If this is about renewing policy what's the claim service like?? I totally agree that loyalty goes unrewarded, thanks for your support. Just tried to call mum, line engaged, what do you reckon??

I'm just taking a few minutes time out while a cake cooks. The Aga is a fickle beast and I dare not move so far away.

I'm baking for the food to feed our troops at Westmorland County Show on this Thursday. I think there will be about 8 family and helpers plus two at home (me included with a dodgy knee). It's not a fancy picnic and woe betide if I stray too far from what I always make.

If you're anywhere here it's a good day out - a truly Agricultural Show, but with something for everyone. This year there will be a Very Special guest - read all about it here.

    Westmorland Show

As a family we're been showing there since 1875 and have always been very involved in the running of it as well.

No, there's enough food already for tonight and tomorrow, so it's not necessary for her to go shopping tonight.

Well there we go. All sorted at last 😆. Mum rang them again, some nonsense about her being ex directory and unable to ring! This maybe the new thing she instigated to stop nuisance calls - I'll investigate that when I feel braver and can see the paperwork.

Upshot is a further reduction on the quote I got her with her original insurers because she has a divi number. Insurance with them 25 plus years and no benefit! Premium now about £138 renewal of policy premium £348. And lousy sums assured.

I was advised they do say other policies are available hers was an old policy and buildings cover just £177000. Not an expert on cost of clearing and building but doesn't seem much in this day and age 😲😲.  I have read the renewal notice and I can't see it.

Still it's sorted now, new policy paid for and cheque back for full amount she's already paid - due in 10 days!

She's read in the paper you can half your electric costs 😲😲😲. So guess what my job is next time. I'm going to start when I arrive and phone lines open and she's beside me 😂😂😂.  Mind you from what she says electric seem reasonable.  She's great on the cost of oil 😉

Can now walk to be tonight's dinner, freezer didn't play ball 😔

Goldie sounds like a lovely day out on Thursday. You'd better practice your curtesy with a dodgy knee 😉. If we were on the area we'd visit. Have a great day.

Busy day, picked up brother and took him for post op appointment in Fakenham.  Met grandtwins at Redwings, they love horses and show no fear of them.  Spent the last hour tidying up in the garden and also booked a CL for later this month.

Strange day, bright and sunny one minute then torrential rain, then back to sunny again , didn't bother pegging washing out before work! laughing

Your site looks lovely Brue, just a bit jealous smile

Bakers2 I share your frustration with insurance, having worked in a local brokers for years I would get so cross when companies offered better deals to new clients and not the loyal ones renewing a policy. yell   Would often offer clients a cheaper new policy  rather than a  renewal with the same company . Glad you got it after lo sorted, it certainly pays to shop around every year.

We've just finished our evening meal. The sun is setting and light gradually fading and getting a little chillier here in the awning. I've put on a pair of warmer slippers as my feet were getting cold in the other ones. If it gets any cooler this evening we might need the heating.

We plan to watch a movie on Film 4 that starts at 18:55 called Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner. It was recommended worth watching in today's newspaper, so we thought we'd give it a try. Also recommended isthe 9 p.m. programme 'The Search for a New Earth' as they reckon in a 100 years time, it will necessary to populate another planet for the human race to survive. It's on BBC2 so no commercial breaks!

VERY black sky here at present. Is the end of the world coming??

Apple pie we ate for dinner was lovely, always best to test 😉. 2 frozen. Pears arrived from a friend this afternoon, popped those on the fridge to slow them up.

Is OH getting ready for the Westmorland County Show on Thursday? We passed all the traffic signs for it today as we headed to the M6.

Sorry Goldie, missed your second post. Hope that the cows do well there.

Kjell, don't know if you've managed to get a site at York, but one has just been recommended to me.... Nurseries Caravan Park. Large pitches, good facs, EHU, near the Ring Road, all for £18 a night.

We're taking seven cows, so they are all being trained, or refreshed, on being lead on a halter. Plus they all get clipped to make them look their best.

We too have had very mixed weather. Fine when we got up at 7:00 and we were able to get the van out and the food loaded in the dry. Took Flyte out before 10:00, fine at the start of our walk but then the heavens opened and streams were running down the road before we got back home. It then stopped and we set off in the dry. More heavy rain driving down to Clayton-le-Dale but managed to set up in the dry. Daughter was waiting for us when we arrived on site with lunch and a box of Belgium Chocs!!  Odd shower during the rest of the day I but managed a couple of walks in the dry. Hope to last one tonight is the same.

At least the sites have quietened down now that the kids are back in school.

Really enjoying the peace whilst touring around.

Somehow at the age of 70+ I seem unable to tolerate noise for very long, sadly.

We watched 'Field of Dreams' then had our pudding of apple crumble with custard followed by watching 'the Search for a new Earth.'  Now we've finished all our tv viewing for tonight. Feeling too sleepy to watch any more. Good night everyone!

Arrived on the Med coast today, Valras-Plage. Quite a few of the sites are already closed for the year including  the one we stayed at a few years ago, which then was open until the end of September. The one we are on now closes on the 17th, so will have to work out where we go from here. Weather travelling down was better than expected, less rain than forecast. Either that or we drove in the opposite direction it was travelling. At least we saw the sun today and managed to sit out for an hour after setting up. Very high winds here just now so no ground sheet down and no canopy out. We did try the satellite though to see if we can pickup UK TV and we can smile all the normal channels. Makes a change not having to dodge trees, this site must be fairly new as the trees are not to high, but with the wind it's very sandy. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the washing done and then get out for a cycle, in shorts in the sun.cool

Bakers, well done on the insurance, I remember having to sort Mum out with things like that after Dad died, having to nag big Sis these days as she can't  be bothered to shop aroundyell

Brue, nice photo glad your having a good trip.

Not yet, apparently! The programme I just watched on BBC2 seems to predict that that could happen in a 100 years from now but by then we could have colonised a planet similar to this 4 light years away in spacecraft that could travel one-fifth of the speed of light so as to get us there in 20 years! Interesting! Unfortunately, there are no caravan sites there, so that counts me out!

I'm glad to note that you're getting some sunshine on the Mediterranean coast, Tammygirl but can't understand why you're finding sites shut in that area; after all it's only September, so it seems a bit early for that!

I woke up because of pain in my hands so took some painkillers and had some tea and toast. Starting to feel better now. I have a hospital appointment on Wednesday morning at Worthing Hospital Orthopaedic department. Two weeks have passed since the accident, so I should be one third of the way to recovery. It's exactly one month today until my medical certificate expires.

Sounds like you're making the most of your tour, shame about the weather. It has dawned a beautifully sunny day here but heating has come on temp set at 18.5c 😲.

It sounds very early for all these sites to be closing, do you think it's just this year and a long range forecast suggested early autumn? To me it's far too early for autumn proper here, although I fear it has started early 😲, but where you are and have been I would have thought extremely early!

Glad to have got insurance sorted for mum. Very tricky path as she and I have a spiky relationship 😉. So any suggestions were often rejected in the past. Shes also fierce independent, a good thing, and will pay a cleaner and a gardener rather than ask for help! But gardener whos several years past retirement put his rates up to and so we ate now allowed to tweak the grass, which we weren't, and he comes half as often now but thankfully still does the hedges, while we cope with the shrubs. But OH is looked upon very favourably these days so he takes the leading nudging. It's all a game isn't it 😂😂. Still I suppose after 2 strokes she's a marvel at managing and will be 87 in a couple of weeks. (She and four of her early friends, one from the day they started school, still meet up on a regular basis 4 or 5 times a year).

Our bright sunny morning must be chilly as the heating set at 18.5 has come on. I must get my house plants in from their summer sojourn outside today.

    Enjoy your day folks
