What is a pup tent
Will the Caravan Club please clarify the size of a single berth pup tent which is the only tent allowed on a CL. The majority of pup tents on sale can be classed as two berth if the occupants are friendly. We are booked into a CL with our 2 great grandaughters and when their mother comes to collect them at the end of their stay we would like to put up a small pop up 2 berth tent (for sleeping) for one night only for one person but have been refused by the site owner as it is against the rules on page 280 of the club book. This ruling needs to be clarified.

I think the Caravan Club need to update all of there rules,, they are very Ambiguous, The Caravan club has been going for 110 years and I think there rules reflect that !!
If you ask a site Warden to Justify the rule they just say , the Book says No!

Is this another dog question?

Some define it as a small one or two man tent, however the Cambridge Dictionary squarely defines it as two man.

I think you have just been unlucky with your CL choice. We have stayed on lots and seen pup tents up. Mainly for storage, but occasional one night sleep over by children. Often inside awning as well!

Page 281 in current handbook, pup tent, toilet tent and awnings, considered part of a single outfit. Also states prior arrangements with owners should be sought, and additional charges may apply. CLs are down to site owners discretion, so subject to variations across the CL network. The wise phone and ask politely first. We have seen tiny pup tents regularly used as storage for none valuable items, even used one ourselves occasionally. Seen children having a closely supervised "adventure" in them as well, next to Mum and Dad in caravan!

Clearly at odds with the requirements for opening a CL which state,
You will be asked to agree to the following conditions
You can only take a maximum of 5 caravans, motor caravans or trailer tents at a time
Visitors must be members of The Caravan Club
Visitors must be touring for leisure with their caravan or motor caravan
No caravan or motor caravan should stay for more than 28 days at a time
Sites are for recreational use and not for storage or permanently sited vans
No tents on site
CL owners will be required to be Members of The Caravan Club0 -

Yes, that is the rules.

Pays not to read too deeply into what Club cites as rules and regulations, there are variations. For example, we know lots of CL owners who are not Club members. You didn't have to be years ago, now I think it is a condition of starting up a CL. Whether or not they have to rejoin each year I don't know, but lots of CLs in handbook don't mention being "member owned".
A tiny pup tent isn't the same as what most folks camp in on a Club Site. They are usually small, low, possibly room for two slim persons or a couple of children, carried in rucksack type job.

The OP is asking about a little pup tent Oneputt, for a one night put up for grandkids. Sort of thing lots of folks put inside their awning, making it a bit more adventurous for children.

We've been on a couple of CLs where the owners have allowed not only pup tents but full sizes ones too. As you might suppose we won't be going back to them again!

I personally don't see why not, it's only like a caravan awning. And before anyone comments about folks sleeping in one, they sleep in caravan awnings as well!
Up to you really, it's your CL!

I know it's not quiet the same but for the purposes of a caravan rally a ‘pup tent’ must have a maximum footprint of 6’ x 6’ and be no higher than 5’ whilst placed in the area normally occupied by your awning. Personally i would check with any individual CL owners to see what they are happy with. We have on various occasions been allowed/not allowed them on CL's and Club sites.
