What are you all up to

TG, the alternative to get to Chapel Lane would be to stay on the M6 till you reach the M42 and follow it south on the east side of the city and then west again on the south side of the city.
Not a big detour for you.
Looks like most of the work is actually on the M5 elevated section just after the junction with the M6.

We could also go that way, but a big detour for us.

I was going to suggest to TG to take the M6 toll and then the M42. There have been delays on the M5/6 for nearly two years, it's bad through Cheshire too. The Oldbury viaduct at Spaghetti Junction is the latest problem, the others have been the smart system being installed. When we go up to Scotland in September we will just bite the bullet again and allow more time.
It took us an extra three hours earlier in the year but we had a delayed start and met heavy late morning traffic.

Lovely day again here not a cloud in the sky and and the view of Swanage bay from up here is wonderfull, while chatting to another at what is supposed to be one of last male bastions where we can normally hold an intelligent conversation without interuptions (the ccep)he was saying his two sons and families were staying on a campsite nearby ,as they find that tenting gives them much more room ,and the modern equipment including ehu is far more in keeping with modern way of holidays than tin boxes being pulled or self propelled

Beautiful day here too. We are off to watch 2 of the grandsons play in a football tournament. Daughter and I have decided to take picnic chairs and a flask of coffee so we can sit and relax while the menfolk get involved and get hot and bothered!!

We had a busy day yesterday. In the morning we drove the Smart car back to our seasonal pitch site and collected the Shogun to return to the cl. Then we hitched up to return back to our seasonal pitch.

Sounds like a lovely Sunday. I miss football tournaments especially on a day like today, not too hot for those playing. Picnic comfy chair and generally good company. Have a good day and I hope the grandsons enjoy it too.

Beautiful day here, yesterday's humidity has gone. Waiting for holiday dog to be collected this morning, not certain on time as it was late night and will require about a 15 mile cycle for him to collect the car before he comes here. Hope to get some indication of time before too long.
Might wander to miniature railway which has an open day. Vaguely knew something about it but it's now threatened with closure so they can built more houses 😤
Enjoy your day folks

Indeed in the caravan you miss out on so much. No opportunity to empty the tent and strike the camp in torrential downpour and galeforce winds. Not able to appreciate just how bracing it can be in a tent during April in the Highlands. All the pleasures that I have missed out on for the last 36 years.

We spent the afternoon yesterday getting the awning up. Then it was time for me to leave for work. I finished work on time last night at 23:00. It was about 20 past eleven by the time I got back to the site, then we had dinner and it was about 1 a.m. when I finally got to bed.
We got up at about 8 a.m. to a lovely, sunny morning. I'll be working 17:30 to 22:00 this evening which means I can get the car back to our pitch tonight instead of overnight in the car park.
I got my rota for next week. I'm doing 17:00 to 22:00 on Bank Holiday Monday then 3 days off after that, then back on for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So the double benefit of more time off as well as being set up on our seasonal pitch for another 21 nights. So we're now planning some days out. There's Bramber Castle nearby and further afield is Dover Castle. So perhaps Bramber Castle on Tuesday and Dover Castle on Wednesday.

I had not realised that things had developed so far. Tents that neatly empty themselves of contents that pack themselves away neatly and tents that dismantle automatically and also pack themselves away during rainstorms.
I had camped abroad with parents but we also had a simple trailer tent when I was 28. That was basic but very easy to use and set up. I sold it 18 months later for twice what I paid for it after buying a 5 berth caravan.

We may try to fit in a walk up Highdown Hill with a picnic lunch using the picnic benches provided outside Highdown Gardens plus a visit to the gardens. If there's time, we could do another boat safari at WWT Arundel. So plenty to do for my 3 days off!

We still have our Vango tent but have not had to use it since June when the awning repair was completed. Now we have much more space with the awning.

Calm sunny day here in East Norfolk.
Another day of pottering, but got a bust week ahead. Brother to hospital Tuesday, BIL to doctors Wednesday then hopefully away in the van for a few days. Need to start planning that. but don't know yet where the van will be! Daughter and family at car fest till tomorrow so they might take van to our sons or even Rookesbury Park.
Daughter won a raffle to be the official hill climb starter at Car fest
Twins enjoying the sun

Yes I remember as a student, waking up in northern France, poking my nose out the flap and finding the water we had put in the pans the night before frozen solid. ❄️⛄️Most of the wimps were in the heated block, being berated by the owner, for using it as a bunkhouse, learnt quite a few interesting French words that day.😱 It might be OK when your young but I'll take my Caravan and Alde heating these days.😀

Grey and dull this morning here with a bit of a breeze.
Feeling a bit slow and tired as our next door neighbours had a party yesterday. It was supposedly for their 3 year old's birthday, ha! the garden (which runs down the side and along the back of ours) was full of adults 20+ of them and of course a few children.
Started at 12.00 and finished at 01.00, first one of their parties we've been here for (it will be the last one) what a noise, loud banging music, kids (what few there were) didn't get a look in with games as the adults were all kicking balls, throwing balls, balloons etc. 3 Gazebos were put up all in a long line, all facing our house and garden. BBQ on the go most of the day (smell was nice) then fire burner thing when it got dark and chilly. We were invited but kindly refused as we were busy getting things finished in prior to going away, not our scene anyway. Really looking forward now to the peace and tranquility of a campsite
Brue, thanks for the suggestion of the toll road that's what OH thought would be the best bet, unfortunately we will hit the traffic late afternoon/teatime I think. If we are ready on Tuesday we just may set of in the afternoon and go to Carlisle for the night. That will give us an earlier start to Birmingham, if we don't hit any problems at least we can go to the Transport museum for a couple of hours for a look around. Then down to Plymouth on the Thursday for the overnight ferry to Roscoff. Been a fair few years since we've traveled that road. Looking at trying to get up to the Hoe to see the Poppy display there before getting the ferry.
Hope everyone is enjoying their BH, its not a holiday up here but have seen a few visitors/tourists going up the A9. Off to see Mum soon, I'll give her a hair cut while I'm there which will last while I'm away. Hope she is feeling ok today.

Sorry. Come join us down south. I'm sure we can squeeze you in. 😉
It is rotten that we have high pressure over us and Scotland, possibly northern England are suffering from a low 😔.
Wherever you are in this country you have to make hay while the sun shines. Who knows what tomorrow will bring in any sense for any of us wherever you are at the time 🙄

There's no comparison. It's far more comfortable in a caravan with a proper comfortable bed to sleep on and like you say heating and for us air-conditioning too!

Am I right in thinking then that the roadworks have got worse recently?
We were at Chapel Lane in late June so came North on the affected section of the M5, there were roadworks then, narrow lanes, it was fairly slow but not too bad, would have been around 11am.
We will be travelling South this time, setting off from Uttoxeter, so will hit the roadworks mid/late morning on a Wednesday. Only going as far as Tewkesbury.

Very good day yesterday at son's house for my "birthday party". As well as the immediate family we also had our son-in-law's parents, his 2 sisters and one husband.
Great presents.....whisky.....wine......and a new i pad!
Dinner was chilli plus extras, followed by my cake which was a chocolate one with very fancy icing, and the big numbers on top.
